8:9

ﱁWhenﱂyou were seeking helpﱃ(of) your Lordﱄand He answeredﱅ[to] youﱆIndeed, I amﱇgoing to reinforce youﱈwith a thousandﱉofﱊthe Angelsﱋone after anotherﱌ(9)

˹Remember˺ when you cried out to your Lord for help, He answered, “I will reinforce you with a thousand angels—followed by many others.”1

8:10

ﱍAnd notﱎ(it was) madeﱏ(by) Allahﱐbutﱑgood tidingsﱒand so that might be at restﱓwith itﱔﱕyour heartsﱖAnd (there is) noﱗ[the] victoryﱘexceptﱙfromﱚ[of]ﱛﱜAllahﱝIndeedﱞAllahﱟ(is) All-MightyﱠAll-Wiseﱡ(10)

And Allah made this a sign of victory and reassurance to your hearts. Victory comes only from Allah. Surely Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

8:11

ﱢWhenﱣHe covered youﱤwith [the] slumberﱥa securityﱦfrom Himﱧand sent downﱨupon youﱩfromﱪthe skyﱫwaterﱬso that He may purify youﱭwith itﱮand take awayﱯfrom youﱰevil (suggestions)ﱱ(of) the ShaitaanﱲAnd to strengthenﱳ[on]ﱴyour heartsﱵand make firmﱶwith itﱷyour feetﱸ(11)

˹Remember˺ when He caused drowsiness to overcome you, giving you serenity.1 And He sent down rain from the sky to purify you, free you from Satan’s whispers, strengthen your hearts, and make ˹your˺ steps firm.

8:12

ﱹWhenﱺinspiredﱻyour Lordﱼtoﱽthe AngelsﱾI amﱿwith youﲀso strengthenﲁthose whoﲂﲃbelievedﲄI will castﲅinﲆ(the) heartsﲇ(of) those whoﲈdisbelieved ﲉthe terrorﲊso strikeﲋaboveﲌthe necksﲍand strikeﲎfrom themﲏeveryﲐfingertip[s]ﲑ(12)

˹Remember, O  Prophet,˺ when your Lord revealed to the angels, “I am with you. So make the believers stand firm. I will cast horror into the hearts of the disbelievers. So strike their necks and strike their fingertips.”

8:13

ﲒThatﲓ(is) because theyﲔopposedﲕAllahﲖﲗand His MessengerﲘAnd whoeverﲙopposesﲚAllahﲛand His Messengerﲜthen indeedﲝAllahﲞ(is) severeﲟin [the] penaltyﲠ(13)

This is because they defied Allah and His Messenger. And whoever defies Allah and His Messenger, then ˹know that˺ Allah is surely severe in punishment.

8:14

ﲡThat ﲢSo taste itﲣAnd thatﲤfor the disbelieversﲥ(is the) punishmentﲦ(of) the Fireﲧ(14)

That ˹worldly punishment˺ is yours, so taste it! Then the disbelievers will suffer the torment of the Fire.

8:15

ﲨO youﲩwhoﲪbelieveﲫWhenﲬyou meetﲭthose whoﲮdisbelieveﲯadvancingﲰthen (do) notﲱturn to themﲲthe backsﲳ(15)

O believers! When you face the disbelievers in battle, never turn your backs to them.

8:16

ﲴAnd whoeverﲵturns to themﲶthat dayﲷhis backﲸexceptﲹ(as) a strategyﲺof warﲻorﲼ(to) joinﲽtoﲾa groupﲿcertainlyﳀ(he has) incurredﳁwrathﳂofﳃAllahﳄand his abodeﳅﳆ(is) Hellﳇa wretchedﳈdestinationﳉ(16)

And whoever does so on such an occasion—unless it is a manoeuvre or to join their own troops—will earn the displeasure of Allah, and their home will be Hell. What an evil destination!
