12:79

He saidAllah forbidAllah forbidthatwe takeexcept(one) whowe foundour possessionwith himIndeed, wethensurely (would be) wrongdoers(79)

Joseph responded, “Allah forbid that we should take other than the one with whom we found our property. Otherwise, we would surely be unjust.”

12:80

So whenthey despairedof himthey secluded themselvesﱓﱔ(in) private consultationSaidthe eldest among themDo notyou knowthatyour fatherhas takenhas takenupon youa promisebyAllahand beforeand beforethatyou failedconcerningﱦﱧYusufSo neverwill I leavethe landuntilpermitsmemy fatherorAllah decidesAllah decidesﱲﱳfor meand He(is) the Best(of) the judges(80)

When they lost all hope in him, they spoke privately. The eldest of them said, “Do you not know that your father had taken a solemn oath by Allah from you, nor how you failed him regarding Joseph before? So I am not leaving this land until my father allows me to, or Allah decides for me. For He is the Best of Judges.

12:81

Returntoyour fatherand say'O our fatherIndeedyour sonﱿhas stolenand notwe testifyexceptof whatwe knewAnd notwe wereof the unseenguardians(81)

Return to your father and say, ‘O our father! Your son committed theft. We testify only to what we know. We could not guard against the unforeseen.1

12:82

And askthe townwherewe were[in it]and the caravanwhichwe returnedﲒﲓ[in it]And indeed, wesurely (are) truthful.'(82)

Ask ˹the people of˺ the land where we were and the caravan we travelled with. We are certainly telling the truth.’”

12:83

He saidNayhave enticedyouyour soulsﲜﲝsomethingso patienceﲟﲠ(is) beautifulPerhapsAllahwill bring them to mewill bring them to mewill bring them to meﲦﲧallIndeed, HeHe(is) the All-KnowerAll-Wise(83)

He cried, “No! Your souls must have tempted you to do something ˹evil˺. So ˹I am left with nothing but˺ beautiful patience!1 I trust Allah will return them all to me. Surely He ˹alone˺ is the All-Knowing, All-Wise.”

12:84

And he turned awayfrom themand saidAlas, my griefoverYusufAnd became whitehis eyesfromthe griefand he (was)a suppressor(84)

He turned away from them, lamenting, “Alas, poor Joseph!” And his eyes turned white out of the grief he suppressed.1

12:85

They saidBy Allahyou will not ceaserememberingYusufﲿuntilyou becomefatally illorbecomeofthose who perish(85)

They said, “By Allah! You will not cease to remember Joseph until you lose your health or ˹even˺ your life.”

12:86

He saidOnlyI complain(of) my sufferingand my grieftoAllahand I knowfromAllahwhatnotyou know(86)

He replied, “I complain of my anguish and sorrow only to Allah, and I know from Allah what you do not know.
