18:62

Then whenthey had passed beyondhe saidto his boyBring usour morning mealCertainlywe have sufferedinour journeythisfatigue(62)

When they had passed further, he said to his assistant, “Bring us our meal! We have certainly been exhausted by today’s journey.”

18:63

He saidDid you seewhenwe retiredtothe rockThen indeed, I[I] forgotthe fishAnd notmade me forget itexceptthe ShaitaanthatﱜﱝI mention itAnd it tookits wayintothe seaamazingly(63)

He replied, “Do you remember when we rested by the rock? ˹That is when˺ I forgot the fish. None made me forget to mention this except Satan. And the fish made its way into the sea miraculously.”1

18:64

He saidThat(is) whatwe wereﱨﱩseekingSo they returnedontheir footprintsretracing(64)

Moses responded, “That is ˹exactly˺ what we were looking for.”1 So they returned, retracing their footsteps.

18:65

Then they founda servantfromOur servantswhom We had givenmercyfromUsand We had taught himfromUsa knowledge(65)

There they found a servant of Ours, to whom We had granted mercy from Us and enlightened with knowledge of Our Own.

18:66

Saidto himMusaﱿMayI follow youonthatyou teach meof whatyou have been taught(of) right guidance(66)

Moses said to him, “May I follow you, provided that you teach me some of the right guidance you have been taught?”

18:67

He saidIndeed, youneverwill be ablewith me(to have) patience(67)

He said, “You certainly cannot be patient ˹enough˺ with me.

18:68

And how canyou have patienceforwhatnotyou encompassof itany knowledge(68)

And how can you be patient with what is beyond your ˹realm of˺ knowledge?”

18:69

He saidYou will find meifAllah willsAllah willspatientand notI will disobeyyourorder(69)

Moses assured ˹him˺, “You will find me patient, Allah willing, and I will not disobey any of your orders.”

18:70

He saidThen ifyou follow me(do) notask meaboutanythinguntilI presentto youof ita mention(70)

He responded, “Then if you follow me, do not question me about anything until I ˹myself˺ clarify it for you.”

18:71

So they both set outuntilwhenthey had embarkedonthe shipﲶﲷhe made a hole in itHe saidHave you made a hole in itto drownits peopleCertainlyyou have donea thingﲿgrave(71)

So they set out, but after they had boarded a ship, the man made a hole in it. Moses protested, “Have you done this to drown its people? You have certainly done a terrible thing!”

18:72

He saidDid notI sayindeed, youneverwill be ablewith me(to have) patience(72)

He replied, “Did I not say that you cannot have patience with me?”

18:73

He said(Do) notblame mefor whatI forgotand (do) notbe hard (upon) meinmy affair(raising) difficulty(73)

Moses pleaded, “Excuse me for forgetting, and do not be hard on me.”

18:74

Then they both set outuntilwhenthey meta boythen he killed himHe saidHave you killeda soulpurefor other thana soulCertainlyyou have donea thingevil(74)

So they proceeded until they came across a boy, and the man killed him. Moses protested, “Have you killed an innocent soul, who killed no one? You have certainly done a horrible thing.”
