34:8

ﱁHas he inventedﱂaboutﱃAllahﱄa lieﱅorﱆin himﱇﱈ(is) madnessﱉNayﱊthose whoﱋ(do) notﱌbelieveﱍin the Hereafterﱎ(will be) inﱏthe punishmentﱐand errorﱑfarﱒ(8)

Has he fabricated a lie against Allah or is he insane?” In fact, those who do not believe in the Hereafter are bound for torment and have strayed farthest ˹from the truth˺.

34:9

ﱓThen, do notﱔthey seeﱕtowardsﱖwhatﱗ(is) before themﱘ(is) before themﱙand whatﱚ(is) behind themﱛofﱜthe heavenﱝﱞand the earthﱟIfﱠWe willﱡWe (could) cause to swallow themﱢWe (could) cause to swallow themﱣthe earthﱤorﱥcause to fallﱦupon themﱧfragmentsﱨfromﱩﱪthe skyﱫIndeedﱬinﱭthatﱮsurely, is a Signﱯfor everyﱰslaveﱱwho turns (to Allah)ﱲ(9)

Have they not then seen all that surrounds them of the heavens and the earth? If We willed, We could cause the earth to swallow them up, or cause ˹deadly˺ pieces of the sky to fall upon them. Surely in this is a sign for every servant who turns ˹to Allah˺.

34:10

ﱳ ﱴAnd certainlyﱵWe gaveﱶDawoodﱷfrom UsﱸﱹBountyﱺO mountainsﱻRepeat praisesﱼwith himﱽﱾand the birdsﱿAnd We made pliableﲀfor himﲁ[the] ironﲂ(10)

Indeed, We granted David a ˹great˺ privilege from Us, ˹commanding:˺ “O mountains! Echo his hymns! And the birds as well.” We made iron mouldable for him,

34:11

ﲃThatﲄmakeﲅfull coats of mailﲆand measure preciselyﲇ[of]ﲈﲉthe links (of armor)ﲊand workﲋﲌrighteousnessﲍIndeed, I Amﲎof whatﲏyou doﲐAll-Seerﲑ(11)

instructing: “Make full-length armour, ˹perfectly˺ balancing the links. And work righteousness ˹O family of David!˺. Indeed, I am All-Seeing of what you do.”

34:12

ﲒAnd to Sulaimanﲓthe wind ﲔits morning courseﲕ(was) a monthﲖand its afternoon courseﲗﲘ(was) a monthﲙand We caused to flowﲚfor himﲛa springﲜﲝ(of) molten copperﲞAnd [of]ﲟthe jinnﲠwhoﲡworkedﲢbefore himﲣbefore himﲤby the permissionﲥﲦ(of) his LordﲧAnd whoeverﲨdeviatedﲩamong themﲪfromﲫOur CommandﲬWe will make him tasteﲭofﲮ(the) punishmentﲯ(of) the Blazeﲰ(12)

And to Solomon ˹We subjected˺ the wind: its morning stride was a month’s journey and so was its evening stride. And We caused a stream of molten copper to flow for him, and ˹We subjected˺ some of the jinn to work under him by his Lord’s Will. And whoever of them deviated from Our command, We made them taste the torment of the blaze.

34:13

ﲱThey workedﲲfor himﲳwhatﲴhe willedﲵofﲶelevated chambersﲷand statuesﲸand bowlsﲹlike reservoirsﲺand cooking-potsﲻﲼfixedﲽWorkﲾO familyﲿ(of) Dawoodﳀﳁ(in) gratitudeﳂBut fewﳃofﳄMy slavesﳅ(are) gratefulﳆ(13)

They made for him whatever he desired of sanctuaries, statues,1 basins as large as reservoirs, and cooking pots fixed ˹into the ground˺. ˹We ordered:˺ “Work gratefully, O  family of David!” ˹Only˺ a few of My servants are ˹truly˺ grateful.

34:14

ﳇThen whenﳈWe decreedﳉfor himﳊthe deathﳋnotﳌindicated to themﳍ[on]ﳎhis deathﳏexceptﳐa creatureﳑ(of) the earthﳒeatingﳓﳔhis staffﳕBut whenﳖhe fell downﳗbecame clearﳘ(to) the jinnﳙthatﳚifﳛthey hadﳜknownﳝthe unseenﳞnotﳟthey (would have) remainedﳠinﳡthe punishmentﳢhumiliatingﳣ(14)

When We decreed Solomon’s death, nothing indicated to the ˹subjected˺ jinn that he was dead except the termites eating away his staff.1 So when he collapsed, the jinn realized that if they had ˹really˺ known the unseen, they would not have remained in ˹such˺ humiliating servitude.
