38:1

ﱁﱂSaadﱃBy the Quranﱄfull (of) reminderﱅfull (of) reminderﱆ(1)

Ṣãd. By the Quran, full of reminders!

38:2

ﱇNayﱈthose whoﱉdisbelieveﱊ(are) inﱋself-gloryﱌand oppositionﱍ(2)

˹This is the truth,˺ yet the disbelievers are ˹entrenched˺ in arrogance and opposition.

38:3

ﱎHow manyﱏWe destroyedﱐbefore themﱑbefore themﱒofﱓa generationﱔthen they called outﱕwhen there (was) no longerﱖtimeﱗ(for) escapeﱘ(3)

˹Imagine˺ how many peoples We destroyed before them, and they cried out when it was too late to escape.

38:4

ﱙAnd they wonderﱚthatﱛhas come to themﱜa warnerﱝﱞfrom themselvesﱟAnd saidﱠthe disbelieversﱡThisﱢ(is) a magicianﱣa liarﱤ(4)

Now, the pagans are astonished that a warner has come to them from among themselves.1 And the disbelievers say, “This is a magician, a total liar!

38:5

ﱥHas he madeﱦthe godsﱧ(into) one godﱨﱩ(into) one godﱪIndeedﱫthisﱬ(is) certainly a thingﱭcuriousﱮ(5)

Has he reduced ˹all˺ the gods to One God? Indeed, this is something totally astonishing.”

38:6

ﱯAnd went forthﱰthe chiefsﱱamong themﱲthatﱳContinueﱴand be patientﱵoverﱶﱷyour godsﱸIndeedﱹthisﱺ(is) certainly a thingﱻintendedﱼ(6)

The chiefs among them went forth saying, “Carry on, and stand firm in devotion to your gods. Certainly this is just a scheme ˹for power˺.1

38:7

ﱽNotﱾwe heardﱿof thisﲀinﲁthe religionﲂthe lastﲃNotﲄ(is) thisﲅbutﲆa fabricationﲇ(7)

We have never heard of this in the previous faith.1 This is nothing but a fabrication.

38:8

ﲈHas been revealedﲉto himﲊthe Messageﲋfromﲌﲍamong usﲎNayﲏTheyﲐ(are) inﲑdoubtﲒaboutﲓﲔMy MessageﲕNayﲖnot yetﲗthey have tastedﲘMy punishmentﲙ(8)

Has the Reminder been revealed ˹only˺ to him out of ˹all of˺ us?” In fact, they are ˹only˺ in doubt of My ˹revealed˺ Reminder.1 In fact, ˹they do so because˺ they have not yet tasted My punishment.

38:9

ﲚOrﲛhave theyﲜ(the) treasuresﲝ(of the) Mercyﲞ(of) your Lordﲟthe All-Mightyﲠthe Bestowerﲡ(9)

Or ˹is it because˺ they possess the treasuries of the mercy of your Lord—the Almighty, the Giver ˹of all bounties˺.

38:10

ﲢOrﲣfor themﲤ(is the) dominionﲥ(of) the heavensﲦand the earthﲧand whateverﲨﲩ(is) between themﲪThen let them ascendﲫbyﲬthe meansﲭ(10)

Or ˹is it because˺ the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and everything in between belongs to them? Let them then climb their way ˹to heaven, if their claim is true˺.

38:11

ﲮSoldiers ﲯthereﲰthereﲱ(they will be) defeatedﲲamongﲳthe companiesﲴ(11)

This is just another ˹enemy˺ force bound for defeat out there.1

38:12

ﲵDeniedﲶbefore themﲷ(the) peopleﲸ(of) Nuhﲹand Aadﲺand Firaunﲻ(the) ownerﲼ(of) the stakesﲽ(12)

Before them, the people of Noah denied ˹the truth˺, as did ’Âd, Pharaoh of the mighty structures,1

38:13

ﲾAnd Thamudﲿand (the) peopleﳀ(of) Lutﳁand (the) companionsﳂﳃ(of) the woodﳄThoseﳅ(were) the companiesﳆ(13)

Thamûd, the people of Lot, and the residents of the Forest.1 These were ˹all˺ enemy forces.

38:14

ﳇNotﳈall (of them)ﳉbutﳊdeniedﳋthe Messengersﳌso (was) justﳍMy penaltyﳎ(14)

Each rejected their messenger, so My punishment was justified.

38:15

ﳏAnd notﳐawaitﳑtheseﳒbutﳓa shoutﳔoneﳕnotﳖfor itﳗanyﳘdelayﳙ(15)

These ˹pagans˺ are awaiting nothing but a single Blast that cannot be stopped.

38:16

ﳚAnd they sayﳛOur LordﳜHastenﳝfor usﳞour shareﳟbeforeﳠ(the) Dayﳡ(of) the Accountﳢ(16)

They say ˹mockingly˺, “Our Lord! Hasten for us our share ˹of the punishment˺ before the Day of Reckoning.”
