51:7

ﱁBy the heavenﱂfull ofﱃpathwaysﱄ(7)

˹And˺ by the heavens in their marvellous design!1

51:8

ﱅIndeed, youﱆ(are) surely inﱇa speechﱈdifferingﱉ(8)

Surely you are ˹lost˺ in conflicting views ˹regarding the truth˺.1

51:9

ﱊDeluded awayﱋfrom itﱌ(is he) whoﱍis deludedﱎ(9)

Only those ˹destined to be˺ deluded are turned away from it.1

51:10

ﱏCursed beﱐthe liarsﱑ(10)

Condemned are the liars—

51:11

ﱒThose whoﱓ[they]ﱔ(are) inﱕfloodﱖ(of) heedlessnessﱗ(11)

those who are ˹steeped˺ in ignorance, totally heedless.

51:12

ﱘThey askﱙWhenﱚ(is the) Dayﱛ(of) Judgmentﱜ(12)

They ask ˹mockingly˺, “When is this Day of Judgment?”

51:13

ﱝA Dayﱞtheyﱟoverﱠthe Fireﱡwill be triedﱢ(13)

˹It is˺ the Day they will be tormented over the Fire.

51:14

ﱣTasteﱤyour trialﱥThisﱦ(is) whatﱧyou wereﱨfor itﱩseeking to hastenﱪ(14)

˹They will be told,˺ “Taste your torment! This is what you sought to hasten.”

51:15

ﱫIndeedﱬthe righteousﱭ(will be) inﱮGardensﱯand springsﱰ(15)

Indeed, the righteous will be amid Gardens and springs,

51:16

ﱱTakingﱲwhatﱳtheir Lord has given themﱴﱵtheir Lord has given themﱶIndeed, theyﱷwereﱸbeforeﱹthatﱺgood-doersﱻ(16)

˹joyfully˺ receiving what their Lord will grant them. Before this ˹reward˺ they were truly good-doers ˹in the world˺:

51:17

ﱼThey used toﱽlittleﱾofﱿthe nightﲀ[what]ﲁsleepﲂ(17)

they used to sleep only little in the night,

51:18

ﲃAnd in the hours before dawnﲄtheyﲅwould ask forgivenessﲆ(18)

and pray for forgiveness before dawn.1

51:19

ﲇAnd inﲈtheir wealthﲉ(was the) rightﲊ(of) those who askedﲋand the deprivedﲌ(19)

And in their wealth there was a rightful share ˹fulfilled˺ for the beggar and the poor.

51:20

ﲍAnd inﲎthe earthﲏ(are) signsﲐfor those who are certainﲑ(20)

There are ˹countless˺ signs on earth for those with sure faith,

51:21

ﲒAnd inﲓﲔyourselvesﲕThen will notﲖyou seeﲗ(21)

as there are within yourselves. Can you not see?

51:22

ﲘAnd inﲙthe heavenﲚ(is) your provisionﲛand whatﲜyou are promisedﲝ(22)

In heaven is your sustenance and whatever you are promised.

51:23

ﲞThen by (the) Lordﲟ(of) the heavenﲠand the earthﲡindeed, itﲢ(is) surely (the) truthﲣ(just) asﲤ[what]ﲥyouﲦspeakﲧ(23)

Then by the Lord of heaven and earth! ˹All˺ this is certainly as true as ˹the fact that˺ you can speak!

51:24

ﲨHasﲩreached youﲪ(the) narrationﲫ(of the) guestsﲬ(of) Ibrahimﲭthe honoredﲮ(24)

Has the story of Abraham’s honoured guests reached you ˹O Prophet˺?

51:25

ﲯWhenﲰthey enteredﲱupon himﲲand saidﲳﲴPeaceﲵHe saidﲶPeaceﲷa peopleﲸunknownﲹ(25)

˹Remember˺ when they entered his presence and greeted ˹him with˺, “Peace!” He replied, “Peace ˹be upon you˺!” ˹Then he said to himself,˺ “These people must be strangers!”

51:26

ﲺThen he wentﲻtoﲼhis householdﲽand cameﲾwith a calfﲿfatﳀ(26)

Then he slipped off to his family and brought a fat ˹roasted˺ calf,1

51:27

ﳁAnd he placed it nearﳂ[to] themﳃhe saidﳄWill notﳅyou eatﳆ(27)

and placed it before them, asking, “Will you not eat?”

51:28

ﳇThen he feltﳈfrom themﳉﳊa fearﳋThey saidﳌ(Do) notﳍﳎfearﳏand they gave him glad tidingsﳐof a sonﳑlearnedﳒ(28)

˹They did not eat,˺ so he grew fearful of them.1 They reassured ˹him˺, “Do not be afraid,” and gave him good news of a knowledgeable son.2

51:29

ﳓThen came forwardﳔhis wifeﳕwithﳖa loud voiceﳗand struckﳘher faceﳙand she saidﳚAn old womanﳛbarrenﳜ(29)

Then his wife came forward with a cry, clasping her forehead ˹in astonishment˺, exclaiming, “˹A baby from˺ a barren, old woman!”

51:30

ﳝThey saidﳞThusﳟsaidﳠﳡyour LordﳢIndeed, Heﳣ[He]ﳤ(is) the All-Wiseﳥthe All-Knowerﳦ(30)

They replied, “Such has your Lord decreed. He is truly the All-Wise, All-Knowing.”
