ﱁWill cover themﱂdarknessﱃ(41)

cast in gloom—

80:42

ﱄThoseﱅ[they]ﱆ(are) the disbelieversﱇthe wicked onesﱈ(42)

those are the disbelievers, the ˹wicked˺ sinners.

81:1

ﱉWhenﱊthe sunﱋis wrapped upﱌ(1)

When the sun is put out,

81:2

ﱍAnd whenﱎthe starsﱏfall, losing their lusterﱐ(2)

and when the stars fall down,

81:3

ﱑAnd whenﱒthe mountainsﱓare moved awayﱔ(3)

and when the mountains are blown away,

81:4

ﱕAnd whenﱖthe full-term she-camelsﱗ(are) left untendedﱘ(4)

and when pregnant camels are left untended,1

81:5

ﱙAnd whenﱚthe wild beastsﱛare gatheredﱜ(5)

and when wild beasts are gathered together,1

81:6

ﱝAnd whenﱞthe seasﱟare made to overflowﱠ(6)

and when the seas are set on fire,1

81:7

ﱡAnd whenﱢthe soulsﱣare pairedﱤ(7)

and when the souls ˹and their bodies˺ are paired ˹once more˺,

81:8

ﱥAnd whenﱦthe female infant buried aliveﱧis askedﱨ(8)

and when baby girls, buried alive, are asked

81:9

ﱩFor whatﱪsinﱫshe was killedﱬ(9)

for what crime they were put to death,1

81:10

ﱭAnd whenﱮthe pagesﱯare laid openﱰ(10)

and when the records ˹of deeds˺ are laid open,

81:11

ﱱAnd whenﱲthe skyﱳis stripped awayﱴ(11)

and when the sky is stripped away,

81:12

ﱵAnd whenﱶthe Hellfireﱷis set ablazeﱸ(12)

and when the Hellfire is fiercely flared up,

81:13

ﱹAnd whenﱺParadiseﱻis brought nearﱼ(13)

and when Paradise is brought near—

81:14

ﱽWill knowﱾa soulﱿwhatﲀit has broughtﲁ(14)

˹on that Day˺ each soul will know what ˹deeds˺ it has brought along.

81:15

ﲂBut nayﲃI swearﲄby the retreating planetsﲅ(15)

I do swear by the receding stars

81:16

ﲆThose that runﲇ(and) disappearﲈ(16)

which travel and hide,1

81:17

ﲉAnd the nightﲊwhenﲋit departsﲌ(17)

and the night as it falls

81:18

ﲍAnd the dawnﲎwhenﲏit breathesﲐ(18)

and the day as it breaks!1

81:19

ﲑIndeed, itﲒ(is) surely a wordﲓ(of) a Messengerﲔnobleﲕ(19)

Indeed, this ˹Quran˺ is the Word of ˹Allah delivered by Gabriel,˺ a noble messenger-angel,

81:20

ﲖPossessor ofﲗpowerﲘwithﲙ(the) Owner ofﲚthe Throneﲛsecureﲜ(20)

full of power, held in honour by the Lord of the Throne,

81:21

ﲝOne to be obeyedﲞandﲟtrustworthyﲠ(21)

obeyed there ˹in heaven˺, and trustworthy.

81:22

ﲡAnd notﲢ(is) your companionﲣmadﲤ(22)

And your fellow man1 is not insane.

81:23

ﲥAnd certainlyﲦhe saw himﲧin the horizonﲨthe clearﲩ(23)

And he did see that ˹angel˺ on the clear horizon,1

81:24

ﲪAnd notﲫhe (is)ﲬonﲭthe unseenﲮa withholderﲯ(24)

and he does not withhold ˹what is revealed to him of˺ the unseen.

81:25

ﲰAnd notﲱitﲲ(is the) wordﲳ(of) Shaitaanﲴaccursedﲵ(25)

And this ˹Quran˺ is not the word of an outcast devil.1

81:26

ﲶSo whereﲷare you goingﲸ(26)

So what ˹other˺ path would you take?

81:27

ﲹNotﲺitﲻ(is) exceptﲼa reminderﲽto the worldsﲾ(27)

Surely this ˹Quran˺ is only a reminder to the whole world—

81:28

ﲿFor whoeverﳀwillsﳁamong youﳂtoﳃtake a straight wayﳄ(28)

to whoever of you wills to take the Straight Way.

81:29

ﳅAnd notﳆyou willﳇexceptﳈthatﳉwillsﳊAllahﳋLordﳌ(of) the worldsﳍ(29)

But you cannot will ˹to do so˺, except by the Will of Allah, the Lord of all worlds.
