4:66

ﱁAnd ifﱂ[that] Weﱃ(had) decreedﱄon themﱅthatﱆKillﱇyourselvesﱈorﱉGo forthﱊfromﱋyour homesﱌnotﱍthey would have done itﱎexceptﱏa fewﱐﱑof themﱒBut ifﱓ[that] theyﱔhad doneﱕwhatﱖthey were advisedﱗwith [it]ﱘsurely (it) would have beenﱙbetterﱚfor themﱛand strongerﱜstrengthen(ing)ﱝ(66)

If We had commanded them to sacrifice themselves or abandon their homes, none would have obeyed except for a few. Had they done what they were advised to do,1 it would have certainly been far better for them and more reassuring,

4:67

ﱞAnd thenﱟWe would (have) given themﱠfromﱡOurselvesﱢa rewardﱣgreatﱤ(67)

and We would have granted them a great reward by Our grace

4:68

ﱥAnd We would have guided themﱦ(to the) wayﱧ(the) straightﱨ(68)

and guided them to the Straight Path.

4:69

ﱩAnd whoeverﱪobeysﱫAllahﱬand the Messengerﱭthen thoseﱮ(will be) withﱯthose whomﱰhas bestowed (His) FavorﱱAllahﱲupon them ﱳofﱴthe Prophetsﱵand the truthfulﱶand the martyrsﱷﱸand the righteousﱹAnd excellentﱺ(are) thoseﱻcompanion(s)ﱼ(69)

And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger will be in the company of those blessed by Allah: the prophets, the people of truth, the martyrs, and the righteous—what honourable company!

4:70

ﱽThatﱾ(is) the BountyﱿofﲀﲁAllahﲂand sufficientﲃAllahﲄ(as) All-Knowerﲅ(70)

This is Allah’s favour, and Allah fully knows ˹who deserves it˺.

4:71

ﲆO youﲇwhoﲈbelieve[d]ﲉTakeﲊyour precautionsﲋand advanceﲌ(in) groupsﲍorﲎadvanceﲏall togetherﲐ(71)

O believers! Take your precautions and go forth either in groups or together.

4:72

ﲑAnd indeedﲒamong youﲓ(is he) whoﲔlags behindﲕthen ifﲖbefalls youﲗa disasterﲘhe saidﲙVerilyﲚ(has) favoredﲛAllahﲜ[on] meﲝ[when]ﲞ(that) notﲟI wasﲠwith themﲡpresentﲢ(72)

There will be some among you who will lag behind so that if you face a disaster, they will say, “Allah has blessed us for not being there among them.”

4:73

ﲣAnd ifﲤbefalls youﲥbountyﲦfromﲧAllahﲨhe would surely sayﲩas ifﲪ(had) notﲫthere beenﲬbetween youﲭand between himﲮany affectionﲯOh! I wishﲰI had beenﲱwith themﲲthen I would have attainedﲳa successﲴgreatﲵ(73)

But if you return with Allah’s bounties, they will say—as if there had been no bond between you—“We wish we had been there with them to share the great gain!”

4:74

ﲶ ﲷSo let fightﲸinﲹ(the) wayﲺ(of) Allahﲻthose whoﲼsellﲽthe lifeﲾ(of) the worldﲿﳀfor the HereafterﳁAnd whoeverﳂfightsﳃinﳄ(the) wayﳅ(of) Allahﳆthen he is killedﳇorﳈachieves victoryﳉthen soonﳊWe will grant himﳋa rewardﳌa greatﳍ(74)

Let those who would sacrifice this life for the Hereafter fight in the cause of Allah. And whoever fights in Allah’s cause—whether they achieve martyrdom or victory—We will honour them with a great reward.
