The Smoke
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.
ﱁHa Meemﱂ
Ḥâ-Mĩm.

ﱃBy the Bookﱄthe clearﱅ
By the clear Book!
- Reflections
ﱆIndeed, Weﱇrevealed itﱈinﱉa NightﱊﱋBlessedﱌIndeed, Weﱍ[We] areﱎ(ever) warningﱏ
Indeed, We sent it down on a blessed night, for We always warn ˹against evil˺.

ﱐThereinﱑis made distinctﱒeveryﱓaffairﱔwiseﱕ
On that night every matter of wisdom is ordained

ﱖA commandﱗfromﱘﱙUsﱚIndeed, Weﱛ[We] areﱜ(ever) sendingﱝ
by a command from Us, for We have always sent ˹messengers˺
- Reflections
ﱞAs Mercyﱟfromﱠﱡyour LordﱢIndeed, Heﱣ[He]ﱤ(is) the All-Hearerﱥthe All-Knowerﱦ
as a mercy from your Lord. He ˹alone˺ is truly the All-Hearing, All-Knowing—

ﱧLordﱨ(of) the heavensﱩand the earthﱪand whateverﱫﱬ(is) between both of themﱭifﱮyou areﱯcertainﱰ
the Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything in between, if only you had sure faith.

ﱱ(There is) noﱲgodﱳexceptﱴHimﱵHe gives lifeﱶﱷand causes deathﱸyour Lordﱹand (the) Lordﱺ(of) your fathersﱻthe formerﱼ
There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him. He ˹alone˺ gives life and causes death. ˹He is˺ your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers.

ﱽNayﱾtheyﱿ(are) inﲀdoubt ﲁplayingﲂ
In fact, they are in doubt, amusing themselves.

ﲃThen watchﲄ(for the) Dayﲅ(when) will bringﲆthe skyﲇsmokeﲈvisibleﲉ
Wait then ˹O Prophet˺ for the day ˹when˺ the sky will be veiled in haze, clearly visible,

ﲊEnvelopingﲋﲌthe peopleﲍThisﲎ(will be) a punishmentﲏpainfulﲐ
overwhelming the people. ˹They will cry,˺ “This is a painful torment.

ﲑOur LordﲒRemoveﲓfrom usﲔthe punishmentﲕindeed, weﲖ(are) believersﲗ
Our Lord! Remove ˹this˺ torment from us, ˹and˺ we will certainly believe.”

ﲘHow canﲙ(there be) for themﲚthe reminderﲛwhen verilyﲜhad come to themﲝa Messengerﲞclearﲟ
How can they be reminded when a messenger has already come to them, making things clear,

ﲠThenﲡthey turned awayﲢfrom himﲣand saidﲤOne taughtﲥa mad manﲦ
then they turned away from him, saying, “A madman, taught by others!”?

ﲧIndeed, Weﲨ(will) removeﲩthe punishmentﲪﲫa littleﲬindeed, youﲭ(will) returnﲮ
Indeed, We will remove ˹that˺ torment for a while, and you ˹Meccans˺ will return ˹to disbelief˺.

ﲯ(The) DayﲰWe will seizeﲱ(with) the seizureﲲthe greatestﲳindeed, Weﲴ(will) take retributionﲵ
˹Then˺ on the Day We will deal ˹you˺ the fiercest blow, We will surely inflict punishment.

ﲶ ﲷAnd certainlyﲸWe triedﲹbefore themﲺ(the) peopleﲻ(of) Firaunﲼand came to themﲽa Messengerﲾnobleﲿ
Indeed, before them We tested Pharaoh’s people: a noble messenger came to them,

ﳀThatﳁDeliverﳂto meﳃ(the) servantsﳄﳅ(of) AllahﳆIndeed, I amﳇto youﳈa Messengerﳉtrustworthyﳊ
˹proclaiming,˺ “Hand over the servants of Allah to me. I am truly a trustworthy messenger to you.
