An-Najm
The Star
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.
ﱁBy the starﱂwhenﱃit goes downﱄ
By the stars when they fade away!
- Reflections
ﱅNotﱆhas strayedﱇyour companionﱈand notﱉhas he erredﱊ
Your fellow man is neither misguided nor astray.
- Reflections
ﱋAnd notﱌhe speaksﱍfromﱎthe desireﱏ
Nor does he speak of his own whims.
- Reflections
ﱐNotﱑitﱒ(is) exceptﱓa revelationﱔrevealedﱕ
It is only a revelation sent down ˹to him˺.
- Reflections
ﱖHas taught himﱗthe (one) mightyﱘ(in) powerﱙ
He has been taught by one ˹angel˺ of mighty power
- Reflections
ﱚPossessor of soundnessﱛPossessor of soundnessﱜAnd he roseﱝ
and great perfection, who once rose to ˹his˺ true form
- Reflections
ﱞWhile heﱟ(was) in the horizon ﱠthe highestﱡ
while on the highest point above the horizon,
- Reflections
ﱢThenﱣhe approachedﱤand came downﱥ
then he approached ˹the Prophet˺, coming so close
- Reflections
ﱦAnd wasﱧ(at) a distanceﱨ(of) two bow-(lengths)ﱩorﱪnearerﱫ
that he was only two arms-lengths away or even less.
- Reflections
ﱬSo he revealedﱭtoﱮHis slaveﱯwhatﱰhe revealedﱱ
Then Allah revealed to His servant what He revealed ˹through Gabriel˺.
- Reflections
ﱲNotﱳliedﱴthe heartﱵwhatﱶit sawﱷ
The ˹Prophet’s˺ heart did not doubt what he saw.
- Reflections
ﱸThen will you dispute with himﱹaboutﱺwhatﱻhe sawﱼ
How can you ˹O pagans˺ then dispute with him regarding what he saw?
- Reflections
ﱽAnd certainlyﱾhe saw himﱿ(in) descentﲀanotherﲁ
And he certainly saw that ˹angel descend˺ a second time
- Reflections
ﲂNearﲃ(the) Lote Treeﲄ(of) the utmost boundaryﲅ
at the Lote Tree of the most extreme limit ˹in the seventh heaven˺—
- Reflections
ﲆNear itﲇ(is the) Gardenﲈ(of) Abodeﲉ
near which is the Garden of ˹Eternal˺ Residence—
- Reflections
ﲊWhenﲋcoveredﲌthe Lote Treeﲍwhatﲎcoversﲏ
while the Lote Tree was overwhelmed with ˹heavenly˺ splendours!
- Reflections
ﲐNotﲑswervedﲒthe sightﲓand notﲔit transgressedﲕ
The ˹Prophet’s˺ sight never wandered, nor did it overreach.
- Reflections
ﲖCertainlyﲗhe sawﲘofﲙ(the) Signsﲚ(of) his Lordﲛthe Greatestﲜ
He certainly saw some of his Lord’s greatest signs.
- Reflections
ﲝSo have you seenﲞthe Latﲟand the Uzzaﲠ
Now, have you considered ˹the idols of˺ Lât and ’Uzza,
- Reflections
ﲡAnd Manatﲢthe thirdﲣthe otherﲤ
and the third one, Manât, as well?
- Reflections
ﲥIs for youﲦthe maleﲧand for Himﲨthe femaleﲩ
Do you ˹prefer to˺ have sons while ˹you attribute˺ to Him daughters?
- Reflections
ﲪThisﲫthenﲬ(is) a divisionﲭunfairﲮ
Then this is ˹truly˺ a biased distribution!
- Reflections
ﲯNotﲰtheyﲱ(are) exceptﲲnamesﲳyou have named themﲴyouﲵand your forefathersﲶnotﲷhas Allah sent downﲸhas Allah sent downﲹfor itﲺanyﲻﲼauthorityﲽNotﲾthey followﲿexceptﳀassumptionﳁand whatﳂdesireﳃﳄthe(ir) soulsﳅAnd certainlyﳆhas come to themﳇfromﳈtheir Lordﳉthe guidanceﳊ
These ˹idols˺ are mere names that you and your forefathers have made up—a practice Allah has never authorized. They follow nothing but ˹inherited˺ assumptions and whatever ˹their˺ souls desire, although ˹true˺ guidance has already come to them from their Lord.
- Reflections
ﳋOrﳌ(is) for manﳍwhatﳎhe wishesﳏ
Or should every person ˹simply˺ have whatever ˹intercessors˺ they desire?
- Reflections
ﳐBut for Allahﳑ(is) the lastﳒand the firstﳓ
In fact, to Allah ˹alone˺ belongs this world and the next.
- Reflections
ﳔﳕAnd how manyﳖofﳗ(the) Angelsﳘinﳙthe heavensﳚnotﳛwill availﳜtheir intercessionﳝanythingﳞexceptﳟafterﳠafterﳡ[that]ﳢAllah has given permissionﳣAllah has given permissionﳤfor whomﳥHe willsﳦand approvesﳧ
˹Imagine˺ how many ˹noble˺ angels are in the heavens! ˹Even˺ their intercession would be of no benefit whatsoever, until Allah gives permission to whoever He wills and ˹only for the people He˺ approves.
