Al-Muzzammil
The Enshrouded One
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.
ﱁO youﱂwho wraps himselfﱃ
O you wrapped ˹in your clothes˺!

ﱄStandﱅ(in) the nightﱆexceptﱇa littleﱈ
Stand all night ˹in prayer˺ except a little—

ﱉHalf of itﱊorﱋlessenﱌfrom itﱍa littleﱎ
˹pray˺ half the night, or a little less,
- Reflections
ﱏOrﱐaddﱑto itﱒand reciteﱓthe Quranﱔ(with) measured rhythmic recitationﱕ
or a little more—and recite the Quran ˹properly˺ in a measured way.

ﱖIndeed, Weﱗwill castﱘupon youﱙa Wordﱚheavyﱛ
˹For˺ We will soon send upon you a weighty revelation.

ﱜIndeedﱝ(the) risingﱞ(at) the nightﱟitﱠ(is) very hardﱡand most potentﱢand more suitableﱣ(for) Wordﱤ
Indeed, worship in the night is more impactful and suitable for recitation.

ﱥIndeedﱦfor youﱧinﱨthe dayﱩ(is) occupationﱪprolongedﱫ
For during the day you are over-occupied ˹with worldly duties˺.

ﱬAnd rememberﱭ(the) nameﱮ(of) your Lordﱯand devote yourselfﱰto Himﱱ(with) devotionﱲ
˹Always˺ remember the Name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly.

ﱳ(The) Lordﱴ(of) the eastﱵand the westﱶ(there is) noﱷgodﱸexceptﱹHimﱺso take Himﱻ(as) Disposer of Affairsﱼ
˹He is the˺ Lord of the east and the west. There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him, so take Him ˹alone˺ as a Trustee of Affairs.

ﱽAnd be patientﱾoverﱿwhatﲀthey sayﲁand avoid themﲂan avoidanceﲃgraciousﲄ
Be patient ˹O Prophet˺ with what they say, and depart from them courteously.

ﲅAnd leave Meﲆand the deniersﲇpossessorsﲈ(of) the easeﲉand allow them respite ﲊa littleﲋ
And leave to Me the deniers—the people of luxury—and bear with them for a little while.

ﲌIndeedﲍwith Usﲎ(are) shacklesﲏand burning fireﲐ
˹For˺ We certainly have shackles, a ˹raging˺ Fire,

ﲑAnd foodﲒthatﲓchokesﲔand a punishmentﲕpainfulﲖ
choking food, and a painful punishment ˹in store for them˺

ﲗ(On the) Dayﲘwill quakeﲙthe earthﲚand the mountainsﲛand will becomeﲜthe mountainsﲝa heap of sandﲞpouring downﲟ
on the Day the earth and mountains will shake ˹violently˺, and mountains will be ˹reduced to˺ dunes of shifting sand.

ﲠIndeed, Weﲡ[We] have sentﲢto youﲣa Messengerﲤ(as) a witnessﲥupon youﲦasﲧWe sentﲨtoﲩFiraunﲪa Messengerﲫ
Indeed, We have sent to you a messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh.

ﲬBut disobeyedﲭFiraunﲮthe Messengerﲯso We seized himﲰ(with) a seizureﲱruinousﲲ
But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a stern grip.

ﲳThen howﲴwill you guard yourselvesﲵifﲶyou disbelieveﲷa Dayﲸ(that) will makeﲹthe childrenﲺgray-hairedﲻ
If you ˹pagans˺ persist in disbelief, then how will you guard yourselves against ˹the horrors of˺ a Day which will turn children’s hair grey?

ﲼThe heavenﲽ(will) break apartﲾﲿtherefromﳀisﳁHis Promiseﳂto be fulfilledﳃ
It will ˹even˺ cause the sky to split apart. His promise ˹of judgment˺ must be fulfilled.

ﳄIndeedﳅthisﳆﳇ(is) a Reminderﳈthen whoeverﳉwillsﳊ(let him) takeﳋtoﳌhis Lordﳍa wayﳎ
Surely this is a reminder. So let whoever wills take the ˹Right˺ Way to their Lord.
