'Abasa
He Frowned
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.
ﱁHe frownedﱂand turned awayﱃ
He frowned and turned ˹his attention˺ away,
- Reflections
ﱄBecauseﱅcame to himﱆthe blind manﱇ
˹simply˺ because the blind man came to him ˹interrupting˺.
- Reflections
ﱈBut whatﱉwould make you knowﱊthat he mightﱋpurify himselfﱌ
You never know ˹O Prophet˺, perhaps he may be purified,
- Reflections
ﱍOrﱎbe remindedﱏso would benefit himﱐthe reminderﱑ
or he may be mindful, benefitting from the reminder.
- Reflections
ﱒAs forﱓ(him) whoﱔconsiders himself free from needﱕ
As for the one who was indifferent,
- Reflections
ﱖSo youﱗto himﱘgive attentionﱙ
you gave him your ˹undivided˺ attention,
- Reflections
ﱚAnd notﱛupon youﱜthat notﱝhe purifies himselfﱞ
even though you are not to blame if he would not be purified.
- Reflections
ﱟBut as forﱠ(he) whoﱡcame to youﱢstrivingﱣ
But as for the one who came to you, eager ˹to learn˺,
- Reflections
ﱤWhile heﱥfearsﱦ
being in awe ˹of Allah˺,
- Reflections
ﱧBut youﱨfrom himﱩ(are) distractedﱪ
you were inattentive to him.
- Reflections
ﱫNayﱬIndeed, itﱭ(is) a reminderﱮ
But no! This ˹revelation˺ is truly a reminder.
- Reflections
ﱯSo whosoeverﱰwillsﱱmay remember itﱲ
So let whoever wills be mindful of it.
- Reflections
ﱳInﱴsheetsﱵhonoredﱶ
It is ˹written˺ on pages held in honour—
- Reflections
ﱷExaltedﱸpurifiedﱹ
highly esteemed, purified—
- Reflections
ﱺIn (the) handsﱻ(of) scribesﱼ
by the hands of angel-scribes,
- Reflections
ﱽNobleﱾdutifulﱿ
honourable and virtuous.
- Reflections
ﲀIs destroyedﲁ[the] manﲂhowﲃungrateful is heﲄ
Condemned are ˹disbelieving˺ humans! How ungrateful they are ˹to Allah˺!
- Reflections
ﲅFromﲆwhatﲇthingﲈHe created himﲉ
From what substance did He create them?
- Reflections
ﲊFromﲋa semen-dropﲌHe created himﲍthen He proportioned himﲎ
He created them from a sperm-drop, and ordained their development.
- Reflections
ﲏThenﲐthe wayﲑHe made easy for himﲒ
Then He makes the way easy for them,
- Reflections
ﲓThenﲔHe causes him to dieﲕand provides a grave for himﲖ
then causes them to die and be buried.
- Reflections
ﲗThenﲘwhenﲙHe willsﲚHe will resurrect himﲛ
Then when He wills, He will resurrect them.
- Reflections
ﲜNayﲝNotﲞhe has accomplishedﲟwhatﲠHe commanded himﲡ
But no! They have failed to comply with what He ordered.
- Reflections
ﲢThen let lookﲣthe manﲤatﲥhis foodﲦ
Let people then consider their food:
- Reflections
ﲧThat [We]ﲨ[We] pouredﲩthe waterﲪ(in) abundanceﲫ
how We pour down rain in abundance
- Reflections
ﲬThenﲭWe cleavedﲮthe earthﲯsplittingﲰ
and meticulously split the earth open ˹for sprouts˺,
- Reflections
ﲱThen We caused to growﲲthereinﲳgrainﲴ
causing grain to grow in it,
- Reflections
ﲵAnd grapesﲶand green fodderﲷ
as well as grapes and greens,
- Reflections
ﲸAnd oliveﲹand date-palmsﲺ
and olives and palm trees,
- Reflections
ﲻAnd gardensﲼ(of) thick foliageﲽ
and dense orchards,
- Reflections
ﲾAnd fruitsﲿand grassﳀ
and fruit and fodder—
- Reflections
ﳁ(As) a provisionﳂfor youﳃand for your cattleﳄ
all as ˹a means of˺ sustenance for you and your animals.
- Reflections
ﳅBut whenﳆcomesﳇthe Deafening Blastﳈ
Then, when the Deafening Blast comes to pass—
- Reflections
ﳉ(The) Dayﳊwill fleeﳋa manﳌfromﳍhis brotherﳎ
on that Day every person will flee from their own siblings,
- Reflections
ﳏAnd his motherﳐand his fatherﳑ
and ˹even˺ their mother and father,
- Reflections
ﳒAnd his wifeﳓand his childrenﳔ
and ˹even˺ their spouse and children.
- Reflections
ﳕFor everyﳖmanﳗamong themﳘthat Dayﳙ(will be) a matterﳚoccupying himﳛ
For then everyone will have enough concern of their own.
- Reflections
ﳜFacesﳝthat Dayﳞ(will be) brightﳟ
On that Day ˹some˺ faces will be bright,
- Reflections
ﳠLaughingﳡrejoicing at good newsﳢ
laughing and rejoicing,
- Reflections
ﳣAnd facesﳤthat Dayﳥupon themﳦ(will be) dustﳧ
while ˹other˺ faces will be dusty,
- Reflections
