ﱁHe saidﱂO MusaﱃIndeed, Iﱄhave chosen youﱅoverﱆthe peopleﱇwith My Messagesﱈand with My wordsﱉSo takeﱊwhatﱋI have given youﱌand beﱍamongﱎthe gratefulﱏ(144)
Allah said, “O Moses! I have ˹already˺ elevated you above all others by My messages and speech.1 So hold firmly to what I have given you and be grateful.”
7:145
ﱐAnd We ordained (laws)ﱑfor himﱒinﱓthe tablets ﱔofﱕeveryﱖthingﱗan instructionﱘand explanationﱙfor everyﱚthingﱛSo take themﱜwith firmnessﱝand orderﱞyour peopleﱟ(to) takeﱠﱡ(the) best of itﱢI will show youﱣ(the) homeﱤ(of) the defiantly disobedientﱥ(145)
We wrote for him on the Tablets ˹the fundamentals˺ of everything; commandments and explanations of all things. ˹We commanded,˺ “Hold to this firmly and ask your people to take the best of it.1 I will soon show ˹all of˺ you the home of the rebellious.2
7:146
ﱦI will turn awayﱧfromﱨMy Signsﱩthose whoﱪare arrogantﱫinﱬthe earthﱭwithoutﱮ[the] rightﱯand ifﱰthey seeﱱeveryﱲsignﱳnotﱴ(will) they believeﱵin itﱶAnd ifﱷthey seeﱸ(the) wayﱹ(of) the righteousnessﱺnotﱻ(will) they take itﱼ(as) a wayﱽbut ifﱾthey seeﱿ(the) wayﲀ(of) [the] errorﲁthey will take itﲂﲃ(as) a wayﲄThatﲅ(is) because theyﲆdeniedﲇOur Signsﲈand they wereﲉof themﲊheedlessﲋ(146)
I will turn away from My signs those who act unjustly with arrogance in the land. And even if they were to see every sign, they still would not believe in them. If they see the Right Path, they will not take it. But if they see a crooked path, they will follow it. This is because they denied Our signs and were heedless of them.
7:147
ﲌAnd those whoﲍdeniedﲎOur Signsﲏand (the) meetingﲐ(of) the Hereafter ﲑworthlessﲒﲓ(are) their deedsﲔWillﲕthey be recompensedﲖexceptﲗ(for) whatﲘthey used toﲙdoﲚ(147)
The deeds of those who deny Our signs and the meeting ˹with Allah˺ in the Hereafter will be in vain. Will they be rewarded except for what they have done?”
7:148
ﲛAnd tookﲜ(the) peopleﲝ(of) Musaﲞfromﲟafter himﲠfromﲡtheir ornamentsﲢa calf ﲣan imageﲤ[for] itﲥﲦ(had) a lowing soundﲧDid notﲨthey seeﲩthat itﲪ(could) notﲫspeak to themﲬand notﲭguide themﲮﲯ(to) a wayﲰThey took it (for worship)ﲱand they wereﲲwrongdoersﲳ(148)
In the absence of Moses, his people made from their ˹golden˺ jewellery an idol of a calf that made a lowing sound. Did they not see that it could neither speak to them nor guide them to the ˹Right˺ Path? Still they took it as a god and were wrongdoers.
7:149
ﲴAnd whenﲵ(it was made to) fallﲶintoﲷtheir handsﲸand they sawﲹthat theyﲺ(had) indeedﲻgone astrayﲼthey saidﲽIfﲾnotﲿhas Mercy on usﳀOur Lordﳁand forgiveﳂ[for] usﳃwe will surely beﳄamongﳅthe losersﳆ(149)
Later, when they were filled with remorse and realized they had gone astray, they cried, “If our Lord does not have mercy on us and forgive us, we will certainly be losers.”
