7:171
ﱁ ﱂAnd whenﱃWe raisedﱄthe mountainﱅabove themﱆas if it wasﱇa canopyﱈand they thoughtﱉthat itﱊ(would) fallﱋupon themﱌ(We said), "TakeﱍwhatﱎWe have given youﱏwith strengthﱐand rememberﱑwhatﱒ(is) in itﱓso that you mayﱔfear Allahﱕ(171)
And ˹remember˺ when We raised the mountain over them as if it were a cloud and they thought it would fall on them.1 ˹We said,˺ “Hold firmly to that ˹Scripture˺ which We have given you and observe its teachings so perhaps you will become mindful ˹of Allah˺.”
7:172
ﱖAnd whenﱗ(was) takenﱘ(by) your Lordﱙfromﱚ(the) Childrenﱛ(of) Adam ﱜfromﱝtheir loins ﱞtheir descendantsﱟand made them testifyﱠoverﱡthemselvesﱢAm I notﱣﱤyour LordﱥThey saidﱦYesﱧﱨwe have testifiedﱩLestﱪyou sayﱫ(on the) Dayﱬ(of) the ResurrectionﱭIndeedﱮwe wereﱯaboutﱰthisﱱunawareﱲ(172)
And ˹remember˺ when your Lord brought forth from the loins of the children of Adam their descendants and had them testify regarding themselves. ˹Allah asked,˺ “Am I not your Lord?” They replied, “Yes, You are! We testify.” ˹He cautioned,˺ “Now you have no right to say on Judgment Day, ‘We were not aware of this.’
7:173
ﱳOrﱴyou sayﱵOnlyﱶpartners (were) associated (with Allah)ﱷ(by) our forefathersﱸfromﱹbefore (us)ﱺand we areﱻdescendantsﱼfromﱽﱾafter themﱿSo will You destroy usﲀfor whatﲁdidﲂthe falsifiersﲃ(173)
Nor say, ‘It was our forefathers who had associated others ˹with Allah in worship˺ and we, as their descendants, followed in their footsteps. Will you then destroy us for the falsehood they invented?’”
7:174
ﲄAnd thusﲅWe explainﲆthe Versesﲇso that they mayﲈreturnﲉ(174)
This is how We make our signs clear, so perhaps they will return ˹to the Right Path˺.
7:175
ﲊAnd reciteﲋto themﲌ(the) storyﲍ(of the) one whomﲎWe gave [him]ﲏOur Versesﲐbut he detachedﲑ[from] themﲒso followed himﲓthe Shaitaanﲔand he becameﲕofﲖthose gone astrayﲗ(175)
And relate to them ˹O Prophet˺ the story of the one to whom We gave Our signs, but he abandoned them, so Satan took hold of him, and he became a deviant.1
7:176
ﲘAnd ifﲙWe willedﲚsurely, We (could) have raised himﲛwith theseﲜ[and] but heﲝadheredﲞtoﲟthe earthﲠand followedﲡﲢhis (vain) desiresﲣSo his exampleﲤ(is) like (the) exampleﲥ(of) the dogﲦifﲧyou attackﲨ[on] himﲩhe lolls out his tongueﲪorﲫif you leave himﲬﲭhe lolls out his tongueﲮThatﲯ(is the) exampleﲰ(of) the peopleﲱwhoﲲdeniedﲳﲴ[in] Our SignsﲵSo relateﲶthe storyﲷso that they mayﲸreflectﲹ(176)
If We had willed, We would have elevated him with Our signs, but he clung to this life—following his evil desires. His example is that of a dog: if you chase it away, it pants, and if you leave it, it ˹still˺ pants. This is the example of the people who deny Our signs.1 So narrate ˹to them˺ stories ˹of the past˺, so perhaps they will reflect.
7:177
ﲺEvilﲻ(as) an exampleﲼ(are) the peopleﲽthose whoﲾdeniedﲿOur Signsﳀand themselvesﳁthey used toﳂwrongﳃ(177)
What an evil example of those who denied Our signs! They ˹only˺ wronged their own souls.
7:178
ﳄWhoeverﳅ(is) guidedﳆ(by) Allahﳇthen heﳈﳉ(is) the guided oneﳊwhile whoeverﳋHe lets go astrayﳌthen thoseﳍ[they]ﳎ(are) the losersﳏ(178)
Whoever Allah guides is truly guided. And whoever He leaves to stray, they are the ˹true˺ losers.
