9:7

ﱁHowﱂcan (there) beﱃfor the polytheistsﱄa covenantﱅwithﱆAllahﱇand withﱈHis Messengerﱉexceptﱊthose (with) whomﱋyou made a covenantﱌnearﱍAl-MasjidﱎﱏAl-HaraamﱐSo long asﱑthey are uprightﱒto youﱓthen you be uprightﱔﱕto themﱖIndeedﱗAllahﱘlovesﱙthe righteousﱚ(7)

How can such polytheists have a treaty with Allah and His Messenger, except those you have made a treaty with at the Sacred Mosque?1 So, as long as they are true to you, be true to them. Indeed Allah loves those who are mindful ˹of Him˺.

9:8

ﱛHowﱜwhile, ifﱝthey gain dominanceﱞover youﱟthey do not regard (the ties)ﱠthey do not regard (the ties)ﱡwith youﱢ(of) kinshipﱣand notﱤﱥcovenant of protectionﱦThey satisfy youﱧwith their mouthsﱨbut refuseﱩtheir heartsﱪand most of themﱫ(are) defiantly disobedientﱬ(8)

How ˹can they have a treaty˺? If they were to have the upper hand over you, they would have no respect for kinship or treaty. They only flatter you with their tongues, but their hearts are in denial, and most of them are rebellious.

9:9

ﱭThey exchangeﱮ[with] the Verses of Allahﱯ[with] the Verses of Allahﱰ(for) a little priceﱱ(for) a little priceﱲand they hinder (people)ﱳfromﱴﱵHis wayﱶIndeedﱷevilﱸ(is) whatﱹthey used toﱺdoﱻ(9)

They chose a fleeting gain over Allah’s revelations, hindering ˹others˺ from His Way. Evil indeed is what they have done!

9:10

ﱼNotﱽthey respect (the ties)ﱾtowardsﱿa believerﲀ(of) kinshipﲁand notﲂﲃcovenant of protectionﲄAnd thoseﲅ[they]ﲆ(are) the transgressorsﲇ(10)

They do not honour the bonds of kinship or treaties with the believers. It is they who are the transgressors.

9:11

ﲈBut ifﲉthey repentﲊand establishﲋthe prayerﲌand giveﲍthe zakahﲎthen (they are) your brothersﲏinﲐﲑ[the] religionﲒAnd We explain in detailﲓthe Versesﲔfor a peopleﲕ(who) knowﲖ(11)

But if they repent, perform prayer, and pay alms-tax, then they are your brothers in faith. This is how We make the revelations clear for people of knowledge.

9:12

ﲗAnd ifﲘthey breakﲙtheir oathsﲚafterﲛafterﲜtheir treatyﲝand defameﲞ[in]ﲟyour religionﲠthen fightﲡthe leadersﲢ(of) [the] disbeliefﲣindeed, they ﲤnoﲥoathsﲦfor themﲧso that they mayﲨceaseﲩ(12)

But if they break their oaths after making a pledge and attack your faith, then fight the champions of disbelief—who never honour their oaths—so perhaps they will desist.

9:13

ﲪWill notﲫyou fightﲬa peopleﲭwho brokeﲮtheir oathsﲯand determinedﲰto drive outﲱthe Messengerﲲand theyﲳbegan (to attack) youﲴfirstﲵﲶtimeﲷﲸDo you fear themﲹBut Allahﲺ(has) more rightﲻthatﲼyou should fear Himﲽifﲾyou areﲿbelieversﳀ(13)

Will you not fight those who have broken their oaths, conspired to expel the Messenger ˹from Mecca˺, and attacked you first? Do you fear them? Allah is more deserving of your fear, if you are ˹true˺ believers.
