9:55

So (let) notimpress youtheir wealthand notﱅﱆtheir childrenOnlyAllah intendsAllah intendsto punish themwith itinthe life(of) the worldand should departtheir soulswhile they(are) disbelievers(55)

So let neither their wealth nor children impress you ˹O Prophet˺. Allah only intends to torment them through these things in this worldly life, then their souls will depart while they are disbelievers.

9:56

And they swearby Allahindeed, theysurely (are) of youwhile notthey(are) of youbut they(are) a people(who) are afraid(56)

They swear by Allah that they are part of you, but they are not. They only say so out of fear.

9:57

Ifthey could finda refugeorcavesora place to entersurely, they would turnto itand theyrun wild(57)

If only they could find a refuge, or a cave, or any hiding-place, they would rush headlong towards it.

9:58

And among them(is he) whocriticizes youconcerningthe charitiesThen ifthey are givenfrom itthey are pleasedbut ifnotthey are givenfrom itthenthey(are) enraged(58)

There are some of them who are critical of your distribution of alms ˹O Prophet˺. If they are given some of it they are pleased, but if not they are enraged.

9:59

And if[that] they(were) satisfiedﱿ(with) whatAllah gave themAllah gave themand His Messengerand saidSufficient for us(is) AllahAllah will give usAllah will give usofHis Bountyand His MessengerIndeed, wetoAllahturn our hopes(59)

If only they had been content with what Allah and His Messenger had given them and said, “Allah is sufficient for us! Allah will grant us out of His bounty, and so will His Messenger. To Allah ˹alone˺ we turn with hope.”

9:60

ﲐ ﲑOnlythe charities(are) for the poorand the needyand those who collectthemand the ones inclinedtheir heartsand inthe (freeing of) the necksand for those in debtand in(the) way(of) Allahand the wayfarer ﲠﲡand the wayfarer an obligationfromﲤﲥAllahAnd Allah(is) All-KnowingAll-Wise(60)

Alms-tax is only for the poor and the needy, for those employed to administer it, for those whose hearts are attracted ˹to the faith˺, for ˹freeing˺ slaves, for those in debt, for Allah’s cause, and for ˹needy˺ travellers. ˹This is˺ an obligation from Allah. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

9:61

And among them(are) those whohurtthe Prophetand they sayHe isﲰﲱ(all) earSayAn ear(of) goodnessfor youhe believesin Allahand believesthe believersand (is) a mercyto those whobelieveﲽﲾamong youﲿAnd those whohurt(the) Messenger(of) Allahfor them(is) a punishmentpainful(61)

And there are others who hurt the Prophet by saying, “He listens to anyone.” Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “He listens to what is best for you. He believes in Allah, has faith in the believers, and is a mercy for those who believe among you.” Those who hurt Allah’s Messenger will suffer a painful punishment.
