ﱁSo (let) notﱂimpress youﱃtheir wealthﱄand notﱅﱆtheir childrenﱇOnlyﱈAllah intendsﱉAllah intendsﱊto punish themﱋwith itﱌinﱍthe lifeﱎ(of) the worldﱏand should departﱐtheir soulsﱑwhile theyﱒ(are) disbelieversﱓ(55)
So let neither their wealth nor children impress you ˹O Prophet˺. Allah only intends to torment them through these things in this worldly life, then their souls will depart while they are disbelievers.
9:56
ﱔAnd they swearﱕby Allahﱖindeed, theyﱗsurely (are) of youﱘwhile notﱙtheyﱚ(are) of youﱛbut theyﱜ(are) a peopleﱝ(who) are afraidﱞ(56)
They swear by Allah that they are part of you, but they are not. They only say so out of fear.
9:57
ﱟIfﱠthey could findﱡa refugeﱢorﱣcavesﱤorﱥa place to enterﱦsurely, they would turnﱧto itﱨand theyﱩrun wildﱪ(57)
If only they could find a refuge, or a cave, or any hiding-place, they would rush headlong towards it.
9:58
ﱫAnd among themﱬ(is he) whoﱭcriticizes youﱮconcerningﱯthe charitiesﱰThen ifﱱthey are givenﱲfrom itﱳthey are pleasedﱴbut ifﱵnotﱶthey are givenﱷfrom itﱸthenﱹtheyﱺ(are) enragedﱻ(58)
There are some of them who are critical of your distribution of alms ˹O Prophet˺. If they are given some of it they are pleased, but if not they are enraged.
9:59
ﱼAnd ifﱽ[that] theyﱾ(were) satisfiedﱿ(with) whatﲀAllah gave themﲁAllah gave themﲂand His Messengerﲃand saidﲄSufficient for usﲅ(is) AllahﲆAllah will give usﲇAllah will give usﲈofﲉHis Bountyﲊand His MessengerﲋIndeed, weﲌtoﲍAllahﲎturn our hopesﲏ(59)
If only they had been content with what Allah and His Messenger had given them and said, “Allah is sufficient for us! Allah will grant us out of His bounty, and so will His Messenger. To Allah ˹alone˺ we turn with hope.”
9:60
ﲐ ﲑOnlyﲒthe charitiesﲓ(are) for the poorﲔand the needyﲕand those who collectﲖthemﲗand the ones inclinedﲘtheir heartsﲙand inﲚthe (freeing of) the necksﲛand for those in debtﲜand inﲝ(the) wayﲞ(of) Allahﲟand the wayfarer ﲠﲡand the wayfarer ﲢan obligationﲣfromﲤﲥAllahﲦAnd Allahﲧ(is) All-KnowingﲨAll-Wiseﲩ(60)
Alms-tax is only for the poor and the needy, for those employed to administer it, for those whose hearts are attracted ˹to the faith˺, for ˹freeing˺ slaves, for those in debt, for Allah’s cause, and for ˹needy˺ travellers. ˹This is˺ an obligation from Allah. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
9:61
ﲪAnd among themﲫ(are) those whoﲬhurtﲭthe Prophetﲮand they sayﲯHe isﲰﲱ(all) earﲲSayﲳAn earﲴ(of) goodnessﲵfor youﲶhe believesﲷin Allahﲸand believesﲹthe believersﲺand (is) a mercyﲻto those whoﲼbelieveﲽﲾamong youﲿAnd those whoﳀhurtﳁ(the) Messengerﳂ(of) Allahﳃfor themﳄ(is) a punishmentﳅpainfulﳆ(61)
And there are others who hurt the Prophet by saying, “He listens to anyone.” Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “He listens to what is best for you. He believes in Allah, has faith in the believers, and is a mercy for those who believe among you.” Those who hurt Allah’s Messenger will suffer a painful punishment.
