20:65

They saidO MusaEither[that]you throwor[that]we will bethe firstwhothrows(65)

They said, “O Moses! Either you cast, or let us be the first to cast.”

20:66

He saidNayﱏﱐyou throwThen beholdTheir ropesand their staffsseemedto himbytheir magicthat they(were) moving(66)

Moses responded, “No, you go first.” And suddenly their ropes and staffs appeared to him—by their magic—to be slithering.

20:67

So sensedinhimselfa fearMusa(67)

So Moses concealed fear within himself.

20:68

We said(Do) notfearIndeed, youyou(will be) superior(68)

We reassured ˹him˺, “Do not fear! It is certainly you who will prevail.

20:69

And throwwhat(is) inyour right handit will swallow upwhatﱮﱯthey have madeOnlythey (have) madea trickﱳﱴ(of) a magicianand notwill be successfulthe magicianwhereverhe comes(69)

Cast what is in your right hand, and it will swallow up what they have made, for what they have made is no more than a magic trick. And magicians can never succeed wherever they go.”

20:70

So were thrown downthe magiciansprostratingThey saidﱿWe believein (the) Lord(of) Harunand Musa(70)

So the magicians fell down in prostration, declaring, “We believe in the Lord of Aaron and Moses.”

20:71

He saidYou believe[to] himbefore[that]I gave permissionﲊﲋto youIndeed, he(is) your chiefthe one whotaught youﲐﲑthe magicSo surely I will cut offyour handsand your feetofopposite sidesand surely I will crucify youon(the) trunks(of) date-palmsand surely you will knowwhich of us(is) more severe(in) punishmentand more lasting(71)

Pharaoh threatened, “How dare you believe in him before I give you permission? He must be your master who taught you magic. I will certainly cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, and crucify you on the trunks of palm trees. You will really see whose punishment is more severe and more lasting.”

20:72

They saidNeverwe will prefer youoverwhathas come to usofthe clear proofsand the One Whoﲪﲫcreated usSo decreewhateveryouﲯﲰ(are) decreeingOnlyyou can decree(for) thislife(of) the world(72)

They responded, “By the One Who created us! We will never prefer you over the clear proofs that have come to us. So do whatever you want! Your authority only covers the ˹fleeting˺ life of this world.

20:73

Indeed, [we]we believein our Lordthat He may forgivefor usour sinsand whatyou compelled usﲿon itofﳁﳂthe magicAnd Allah(is) Bestand Ever Lasting(73)

Indeed, we have believed in our Lord so He may forgive our sins and that magic you have forced us to practice. And Allah is far superior ˹in reward˺ and more lasting ˹in punishment˺.”

20:74

Indeed, hewhocomes(to) his Lord(as) a criminalthen indeedfor him(is) HellNothe will diein itand notlive(74)

Whoever comes to their Lord as an evildoer will certainly have Hell, where they can neither live nor die.

20:75

But whoevercomes to Him(as) a belieververilyhe has donethe righteous deedsthen thosefor them(will be) the ranks[the] high(75)

But whoever comes to Him as a believer, having done good, they will have the highest ranks:

20:76

Gardens(of) Edenflowsfromunderneath themthe riversabiding foreverﳧﳨin itAnd that(is) the reward(for him) whopurifies himself(76)

the Gardens of Eternity, under which rivers flow, where they will stay forever. That is the reward of those who purify themselves.
