21:36

ﱁAnd whenﱂthey see youﱃthose whoﱄdisbelieveﱅnotﱆthey take youﱇexceptﱈ(in) ridiculeﱉIs thisﱊthe one whoﱋmentionsﱌyour godsﱍAnd theyﱎat (the) mentionﱏ(of) the Most Graciousﱐ[they]ﱑ(are) disbelieversﱒ(36)

When the disbelievers see you ˹O Prophet˺, they only make fun of you, ˹saying,˺ “Is this the one who speaks ˹ill˺ of your gods?” while they disbelieve at the mention of the Most Compassionate.

21:37

ﱓIs createdﱔthe manﱕofﱖﱗhasteﱘI will show youﱙMy Signsﱚso (do) notﱛask Me to hastenﱜ(37)

Humankind is made of haste. I will soon show you My signs, so do not ask Me to hasten them.

21:38

ﱝAnd they sayﱞWhen (will be fulfilled)ﱟthisﱠpromiseﱡifﱢyou areﱣtruthfulﱤ(38)

They ask ˹the believers˺, “When will this threat come to pass if what you say is true?”

21:39

ﱥIfﱦknewﱧthose whoﱨdisbelievedﱩ(the) timeﱪ(when) notﱫthey will avertﱬfromﱭtheir facesﱮthe Fireﱯand notﱰfromﱱtheir backsﱲand notﱳtheyﱴwill be helpedﱵ(39)

If only the disbelievers knew that a time will come when they will not be able to keep the Fire off their faces or backs, nor will they be helped.

21:40

ﱶNayﱷit will come to themﱸunexpectedlyﱹand bewilder themﱺthen notﱻthey will be ableﱼto repel itﱽand notﱾtheyﱿwill be given respiteﲀ(40)

In fact, the Hour will take them by surprise, leaving them stunned. So they will not be able to avert it, nor will it be delayed from them.

21:41

ﲁAnd verilyﲂwere mockedﲃMessengersﲄbefore youﲅbefore youﲆthen surroundedﲇthose whoﲈmockedﲉfrom themﲊwhatﲋthey usedﲌat itﲍ(to) mockﲎ(41)

˹Other˺ messengers had already been ridiculed before you ˹O Prophet˺, but those who mocked them were overtaken by what they used to ridicule.

21:42

ﲏSayﲐWhoﲑ(can) protect youﲒin the nightﲓand the dayﲔfromﲕﲖthe Most GraciousﲗYetﲘtheyﲙfromﲚ(the) remembranceﲛ(of) their Lordﲜturn awayﲝ(42)

Ask ˹them, O  Prophet,˺ “Who can defend you by day or by night against the Most Compassionate?” Still they turn away from the remembrance of their Lord.

21:43

ﲞOrﲟhave theyﲠgodsﲡ(to) defend themﲢfromﲣﲤUsﲥNotﲦthey are ableﲧ(to) helpﲨthemselvesﲩand notﲪtheyﲫfrom Usﲬcan be protectedﲭ(43)

Or do they have gods—other than Us—that can protect them? They cannot ˹even˺ protect themselves, nor will they be aided against Us.

21:44

ﲮNayﲯWe gave provisionﲰ(to) theseﲱand their fathersﲲuntilﲳgrew longﲴfor themﲵﲶthe lifeﲷThen do notﲸthey seeﲹthat WeﲺWe comeﲻ(to) the landﲼWe reduce itﲽfromﲾﲿits bordersﳀSo is (it) theyﳁ(who will be) overcomingﳂ(44)

In fact, We have allowed enjoyment for these ˹Meccans˺ and their forefathers for such a long time ˹that they took it for granted˺. Do they not see that We gradually reduce ˹their˺ land from its borders? Is it they who will then prevail?
