23:75

ﱁ ﱂAnd ifWe had mercy on themand We removedwhat(was) on themof(the) hardshipsurely they would persistintheir transgressionwandering blindly(75)

˹Even˺ if We had mercy on them and removed their affliction,1 they would still persist in their transgression, wandering blindly.

23:76

And verilyWe seized themwith the punishmentbut notthey submitto their Lordand notthey supplicate humbly(76)

And We have already seized them with torment, but they never humbled themselves to their Lord, nor did they ˹submissively˺ appeal ˹to Him˺.

23:77

UntilwhenWe openedfor thema gateof a punishmentof a punishmentseverebeholdTheyin it(will be in) despair(77)

But as soon as We open for them a gate of severe punishment, they will be utterly desperate.

23:78

And He(is) the One Whoproducedfor youthe hearingand the sightﱪﱫand the feelinglittle(is) whatyou give thanks(78)

He is the One Who created for you hearing, sight, and intellect. ˹Yet˺ you hardly give any thanks.

23:79

And He(is) the One Whomultiplied youinthe earthand to Himyou will be gathered(79)

And He is the One Who has dispersed you ˹all˺ over the earth, and to Him you will ˹all˺ be gathered.

23:80

And He(is) the One Whogives lifeand causes deathand for Him(is the) alternation(of) the nightﱿﲀand the dayThen will notyou reason(80)

And He is the One Who gives life and causes death, and to Him belongs the alternation of the day and night. Will you not then understand?

23:81

Naythey say(the) like(of) whatsaidthe former (people)(81)

But they ˹just˺ say what their predecessors said.

23:82

They saidWhat! Whenwe are deadand becomedustand boneswould wesurely be resurrected(82)

They said, “Once we are dead and reduced to dust and bones, will we really be resurrected?

23:83

Verilywe have been promised[we]and our forefathersthisbeforebeforenot(is) thisbut(the) tales(of) the former (people)(83)

We have already been promised this, as well as our forefathers earlier. This is nothing but ancient fables!”

23:84

SayTo whom (belongs)the earthand whoever(is) in itifyouknow(84)

Ask ˹them, O  Prophet˺, “To whom belong the earth and all those on it, if you ˹really˺ know?”

23:85

They will sayﲫﲬTo AllahSayThen will notyou remember(85)

They will reply, “To Allah!” Say, “Why are you not then mindful?”

23:86

SayWho(is the) Lord(of) the seven heavens(of) the seven heavensand (the) Lord(of) the Thronethe Great(86)

˹And˺ ask ˹them˺, “Who is the Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the Mighty Throne?”

23:87

They will sayﲻﲼAllahSayThen will notﲿyou fear (Him)(87)

They will reply, “Allah.” Say, “Will you not then fear ˹Him˺?”

23:88

SayWho is (it)in Whose Hand(s)(is the) dominion(of) allthingsand Heprotectsand no (one)(can) be protectedagainst HimIfyouknow(88)

Ask ˹them also,˺ “In Whose Hands is the authority over all things, protecting ˹all˺ while none can protect against Him, if you ˹really˺ know?”

23:89

They will sayﳑﳒAllahSayThen howare you deluded(89)

They will reply, “Allah.” Say, “How are you then so deluded?”
