67:27

But whenthey (will) see itapproaching(will be) distressed(the) faces(of) those whodisbelievedand it will be saidThis(is) that whichyou used tofor itcall(27)

Then when they see the torment drawing near, the faces of the disbelievers will become gloomy, and it will be said ˹to them˺, “This is what you claimed would never come.”1

67:28

SayHave you seenifdestroys meAllahand whoever(is) with meorhas mercy upon usthen who(can) protectthe disbelieversfroma punishmentpainful(28)

Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Consider this: whether Allah causes me and those with me to die or shows us mercy, who will save the disbelievers from a painful punishment?”1

67:29

SayHe(is) the Most Graciouswe believein Himand upon Himﱥﱦwe put (our) trustSo you will knowwho(is) it(that is) inerrorclear(29)

Say, “He is the Most Compassionate—in Him ˹alone˺ we believe, and in Him ˹alone˺ we trust. You will soon know who is clearly astray.”

67:30

SayHave you seenifbecomesyour watersunkenthen whocould bring youwaterflowing(30)

Say, “Consider this: if your water were to sink ˹into the earth˺, then who ˹else˺ could bring you flowing water?”

68. Al-QalamThe Pen

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful

68:1

ﱹﱺNunBy the penand whatthey write(1)

Nũn. By the pen and what everyone writes!

68:2

ﱿNotyou (are)by (the) Grace(of) your Lorda madman(2)

By the grace of your Lord, you ˹O Prophet˺ are not insane.

68:3

And indeedfor yousurely (is) a rewardwithoutend(3)

You will certainly have a never-ending reward.

68:4

And indeed, yousurely (are)(of) a moral charactergreat(4)

And you are truly ˹a man˺ of outstanding character.

68:5

So you will seeand they will see(5)

Soon you and the pagans will see,

68:6

Which of you(is) the afflicted one(6)

which of you is mad.

68:7

Indeedyour LordHe(is) most knowingof (he) whohas strayedfromHis wayand He(is) most knowingof the guided ones(7)

Surely your Lord ˹alone˺ knows best who has strayed from His Way and who is ˹rightly˺ guided.

68:8

So (do) notobeythe deniers(8)

So do not give in to the deniers.

68:9

They wishthatyou should compromiseso they would compromise(9)

They wish you would compromise so they would yield ˹to you˺.

68:10

And (do) notobeyeveryhabitual swearerworthless(10)

And do not obey the despicable, vain oath-taker,

68:11

Defamergoing aboutwith malicious gossip(11)

slanderer, gossip-monger,

68:12

A preventerof (the) goodtransgressorsinful(12)

withholder of good, transgressor, evildoer,

68:13

Cruelafter(all) thatutterly useless(13)

brute, and—on top of all that—an illegitimate child.

68:14

ﲿBecause(he) isa possessor(of) wealthand children(14)

Now, ˹simply˺ because he has been blessed with ˹abundant˺ wealth and children,

68:15

Whenare recitedto himOur Verseshe saysStories(of) the former (people)(15)

whenever Our revelations are recited to him, he says, “Ancient fables!”

68:16

We will brand himonthe snout(16)

We will soon mark his snout.1
