88:23

Butwhoeverturns awayand disbelieves(23)

But whoever turns away, persisting in disbelief,

88:24

Then will punish himAllah(with) the punishmentgreatest(24)

then Allah will inflict upon them the major punishment.1

88:25

Indeedto Us(will be) their return(25)

Surely to Us is their return,

88:26

Thenindeedupon Us(is) their account(26)

then surely with Us is their reckoning.

89. Al-FajrThe Dawn

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful

89:1

By the dawn(1)

By the dawn,1

89:2

And the nightsten(2)

and the ten nights,1

89:3

And the evenand the odd(3)

and the even and the odd,

89:4

And the nightwhenit passes(4)

and the night when it passes!

89:5

Isinthat(not) an oathfor thosewho understand(5)

Is all this ˹not˺ a sufficient oath for those who have sense?

89:6

Did notyou seehowdealtyour Lordwith Aad(6)

Did you not see how your Lord dealt with ’Ȃd—

89:7

Irampossessors (of)lofty pillars(7)

˹the people˺ of Iram—with ˹their˺ great stature,

89:8

Whichnothad been createdlike theminthe cities(8)

unmatched in any other land;

89:9

And Thamudwhocarved outthe rocksin the valley(9)

and Thamûd who carved ˹their homes into˺ the rocks in the ˹Stone˺ Valley;

89:10

ﱿAnd Firaunowner ofstakes(10)

and the Pharaoh of mighty structures?1

89:11

Whotransgressedinthe lands(11)

They all transgressed throughout the land,

89:12

And (made) muchthereincorruption(12)

spreading much corruption there.

89:13

So pouredon themyour Lordscourge(of) punishment(13)

So your Lord unleashed on them a scourge of punishment.1

89:14

Indeedyour Lord(is) surely Ever Watchful(14)

˹For˺ your Lord is truly vigilant.

89:15

And as formanwhendoestry himhis Lordand is generous to himand favors himhe saysMy Lordhas honored me(15)

Now, whenever a human being is tested by their Lord through ˹His˺ generosity and blessings, they boast, “My Lord has ˹deservedly˺ honoured me!”

89:16

ButwhendoesHe try himand restrictsfor himhis provisionthen he saysMy Lord(has) humiliated me(16)

But when He tests them by limiting their provision, they protest, “My Lord has ˹undeservedly˺ humiliated me!”

89:17

ﲭﲮNayButnotyou honorthe orphan(17)

Absolutely not! In fact, you are not ˹even˺ gracious to the orphan,

89:18

And notyou feel the urgetofeedthe poor(18)

nor do you urge one another to feed the poor.

89:19

And you consumethe inheritancedevouringaltogether(19)

And you devour ˹others’˺ inheritance greedily,1

89:20

ﲿAnd you lovewealth(with) loveimmense(20)

and love wealth fervently.

89:21

ﳄﳅNayWhenis leveledthe earthpounded(and) crushed(21)

Enough! When the earth is entirely crushed over and over,

89:22

And comesyour Lordand the Angelsrank(upon) rank(22)

and your Lord comes ˹to judge˺ with angels, rank upon rank,
