3:141

And so that may purifyAllahthose whobelieveand destroythe disbelievers(141)

and distinguish the ˹true˺ believers and destroy the disbelievers.

3:142

Ordo you thinkthatyou will enterParadisewhile has not yetmade evidentAllahthose whostrove hardamong youand made evidentthe steadfast(142)

Do you think you will enter Paradise without Allah proving which of you ˹truly˺ struggled ˹for His cause˺ and patiently endured?

3:143

And certainlyyou used towish(for) deathfrombefore[that]you met itthen indeedyou have seen itwhile you (were)looking on(143)

You certainly wished ˹for the opportunity˺ for martyrdom before encountering it, now you have seen it with your own eyes.

3:144

And not(is) Muhammad excepta Messengercertainlypassed awayfrombefore himﱫﱬ[the] (other) MessengersSo ifhe diedoris slainwill you turn backonﱳﱴyour heelsAnd whoeverturns backonhis heelsthen neverwill he harmAllahﱼﱽ(in) anythingAnd will rewardﱿAllahthe grateful ones(144)

Muḥammad is no more than a messenger; other messengers have gone before him. If he were to die or to be killed, would you regress into disbelief? Those who do so will not harm Allah whatsoever. And Allah will reward those who are grateful.

3:145

And notisfor a soulthathe diesexceptby (the) permission(of) Allah(at a) decreeﲋﲌdeterminedAnd whoeverdesiresreward(of) the world We will give himthereofand whoeverdesiresreward(of) the HereafterWe will give himﲘﲙthereofAnd We will rewardthe grateful ones(145)

No soul can ever die without Allah’s Will at the destined time. Those who desire worldly gain, We will let them have it, and those who desire heavenly reward, We will grant it to them. And We will reward those who are grateful.

3:146

And how manyfroma Prophetfoughtwith him(were) religious scholarsmanyBut notthey lost heartfor whatbefell themin(the) way(of) Allahand notthey weakenedand notﲮﲯthey gave inAnd Allahlovesthe patient ones(146)

˹Imagine˺ how many devotees fought along with their prophets and never faltered despite whatever ˹losses˺ they suffered in the cause of Allah, nor did they weaken or give in! Allah loves those who persevere.

3:147

And notweretheir wordsexceptthatthey saidOur Lordforgivefor usour sinsand our excessesﲿinour affairsand make firmour feetand give us victoryover[the people]the disbelievers(147)

And all they said was, “Our Lord! Forgive our sins and excesses, make our steps firm, and grant us victory over the disbelieving people.”

3:148

So gave themAllahreward(in) the worldand goodrewardﳎﳏ(in) the HereafterAnd Allahlovesthe good-doers(148)

So Allah gave them the reward of this world and the excellent reward of the Hereafter. For Allah loves the good-doers.
