4:155

ﱁThen because ofﱂtheir breakingﱃ(of) their covenantﱄand their disbeliefﱅin (the) Signsﱆ(of) Allahﱇand their killingﱈ(of) the Prophetsﱉwithoutﱊany rightﱋand their sayingﱌOur heartsﱍﱎ(are) wrappedﱏNayﱐ(has) set a sealﱑAllahﱒon their (hearts)ﱓfor their disbeliefﱔso notﱕthey believeﱖexceptﱗa fewﱘ(155)

˹They were condemned˺ for breaking their covenant, rejecting Allah’s signs, killing the prophets unjustly, and for saying, “Our hearts are unreceptive!”1—it is Allah Who has sealed their hearts for their disbelief, so they do not believe except for a few—

4:156

ﱙAnd for their disbeliefﱚand their sayingﱛagainstﱜMaryamﱝa slanderﱞgreatﱟ(156)

and for their denial and outrageous accusation against Mary,1

4:157

ﱠAnd for their sayingﱡIndeed, weﱢkilledﱣthe MessiahﱤIsaﱥsonﱦ(of) Maryamﱧ(the) Messengerﱨ(of) AllahﱩAnd notﱪthey killed himﱫand notﱬthey crucified himﱭbutﱮit was made to appear (so)ﱯﱰto themﱱAnd indeedﱲthose whoﱳdifferﱴin itﱵ(are) surely inﱶdoubtﱷﱸabout itﱹNotﱺfor themﱻabout itﱼ[of]ﱽ(any) knowledgeﱾexceptﱿ(the) followingﲀﲁ(of) assumptionﲂAnd notﲃthey killed himﲄcertainlyﲅ(157)

and for boasting, “We killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of Allah.” But they neither killed nor crucified him—it was only made to appear so.1 Even those who argue for this ˹crucifixion˺ are in doubt. They have no knowledge whatsoever—only making assumptions. They certainly did not kill him.

4:158

ﲆNayﲇhe was raisedﲈ(by) Allahﲉﲊtowards HimﲋAnd isﲌAllahﲍAll-MightyﲎAll-Wiseﲏ(158)

Rather, Allah raised him up to Himself. And Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

4:159

ﲐAnd (there is) notﲑfromﲒ(the) Peopleﲓ(of) the Bookﲔbutﲕsurely he believesﲖin himﲗbeforeﲘﲙhis deathﲚAnd (on the) Dayﲛ(of) the Resurrectionﲜhe will beﲝagainst themﲞa witnessﲟ(159)

Every one of the People of the Book will definitely believe in him before his death.1 And on the Day of Judgment Jesus will be a witness against them.

4:160

ﲠThen for (the) wrongdoingﲡofﲢthose whoﲣwere JewsﲤWe made unlawfulﲥfor themﲦgood thingsﲧwhich had been lawfulﲨfor themﲩand for their hinderingﲪfromﲫ(the) wayﲬ(of) Allah ﲭmanyﲮ(160)

We forbade the Jews certain foods that had been lawful to them for their wrongdoing, and for hindering many from the Way of Allah,

4:161

ﲯAnd for their takingﲰ(of) [the] usuryﲱwhile certainlyﲲthey were forbiddenﲳfrom itﲴand (for) their consumingﲵwealthﲶ(of) the peopleﲷﲸwrongfullyﲹAnd We have preparedﲺfor the disbelieversﲻamong themﲼa punishmentﲽpainfulﲾ(161)

taking interest despite its prohibition, and consuming people’s wealth unjustly. We have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment.

4:162

ﲿButﳀthe ones who are firmﳁinﳂthe knowledgeﳃamong themﳄand the believersﳅbelieveﳆin whatﳇ(is) revealedﳈto youﳉand whatﳊwas revealedﳋfromﳌﳍbefore youﳎAnd the ones who establishﳏﳐthe prayerﳑand the ones who giveﳒthe zakahﳓand the ones who believeﳔin Allahﳕand the Dayﳖthe Last ﳗthoseﳘWe will give themﳙa rewardﳚgreatﳛ(162)

But those with solid knowledge among them and those with true faith believe in what has been revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ and what was revealed before you—˹especially˺ those who establish prayer—and those who pay alms-tax and believe in Allah and the Last Day, to these ˹people˺ We will grant a great reward.
