4:155

Then because oftheir breaking(of) their covenantand their disbeliefin (the) Signs(of) Allahand their killing(of) the Prophetswithoutany rightand their sayingOur heartsﱍﱎ(are) wrappedNay(has) set a sealAllahon their (hearts)for their disbeliefso notthey believeexcepta few(155)

˹They were condemned˺ for breaking their covenant, rejecting Allah’s signs, killing the prophets unjustly, and for saying, “Our hearts are unreceptive!”1—it is Allah Who has sealed their hearts for their disbelief, so they do not believe except for a few—

4:156

And for their disbeliefand their sayingagainstMaryama slandergreat(156)

and for their denial and outrageous accusation against Mary,1

4:157

And for their sayingIndeed, wekilledthe MessiahIsason(of) Maryam(the) Messenger(of) AllahAnd notthey killed himand notthey crucified himbutit was made to appear (so)ﱯﱰto themAnd indeedthose whodifferin it(are) surely indoubtﱷﱸabout itNotfor themabout it[of](any) knowledgeexceptﱿ(the) followingﲀﲁ(of) assumptionAnd notthey killed himcertainly(157)

and for boasting, “We killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of Allah.” But they neither killed nor crucified him—it was only made to appear so.1 Even those who argue for this ˹crucifixion˺ are in doubt. They have no knowledge whatsoever—only making assumptions. They certainly did not kill him.

4:158

Nayhe was raised(by) Allahﲉﲊtowards HimAnd isAllahAll-MightyAll-Wise(158)

Rather, Allah raised him up to Himself. And Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

4:159

And (there is) notfrom(the) People(of) the Bookbutsurely he believesin himbeforeﲘﲙhis deathAnd (on the) Day(of) the Resurrectionhe will beagainst thema witness(159)

Every one of the People of the Book will definitely believe in him before his death.1 And on the Day of Judgment Jesus will be a witness against them.

4:160

Then for (the) wrongdoingofthose whowere JewsWe made unlawfulfor themgood thingswhich had been lawfulfor themand for their hinderingfrom(the) way(of) Allah many(160)

We forbade the Jews certain foods that had been lawful to them for their wrongdoing, and for hindering many from the Way of Allah,

4:161

And for their taking(of) [the] usurywhile certainlythey were forbiddenfrom itand (for) their consumingwealth(of) the peopleﲷﲸwrongfullyAnd We have preparedfor the disbelieversamong thema punishmentpainful(161)

taking interest despite its prohibition, and consuming people’s wealth unjustly. We have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment.

4:162

ﲿButthe ones who are firminthe knowledgeamong themand the believersbelievein what(is) revealedto youand whatwas revealedfromﳌﳍbefore youAnd the ones who establishﳏﳐthe prayerand the ones who givethe zakahand the ones who believein Allahand the Daythe Last thoseWe will give thema rewardgreat(162)

But those with solid knowledge among them and those with true faith believe in what has been revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ and what was revealed before you—˹especially˺ those who establish prayer—and those who pay alms-tax and believe in Allah and the Last Day, to these ˹people˺ We will grant a great reward.
