24:11

ﱁIndeedﱂthose whoﱃbroughtﱄthe lieﱅ(are) a groupﱆﱇamong youﱈ(Do) notﱉthink itﱊbadﱋﱌfor youﱍnayﱎitﱏ(is) goodﱐﱑfor youﱒFor everyﱓpersonﱔamong themﱕ(is) whatﱖhe earnedﱗofﱘﱙthe sinﱚand the one whoﱛtook upon himself a greater share of itﱜtook upon himself a greater share of itﱝamong them ﱞfor himﱟ(is) a punishmentﱠgreatﱡ(11)

Indeed, those who came up with that ˹outrageous˺ slander are a group of you. Do not think this is bad for you. Rather, it is good for you.1 They will be punished, each according to their share of the sin. As for their mastermind,2 he will suffer a tremendous punishment.

24:12

ﱢWhy notﱣwhenﱤyou heard itﱥthinkﱦthe believing menﱧand the believing womenﱨgood of themselvesﱩgood of themselvesﱪand sayﱫThisﱬ(is) a lieﱭclearﱮ(12)

If only the believing men and women had thought well of one another, when you heard this ˹rumour˺, and said, “This is clearly ˹an outrageous˺ slander!”

24:13

ﱯWhy (did) notﱰthey bringﱱfor itﱲfourﱳﱴwitnessesﱵThen whenﱶnotﱷthey broughtﱸthe witnessesﱹthen thoseﱺnear Allahﱻnear Allahﱼtheyﱽ(are) the liarsﱾ(13)

Why did they not produce four witnesses? Now, since they have failed to produce witnesses, they are ˹truly˺ liars in the sight of Allah.

24:14

ﱿAnd if notﲀ(for the) Graceﲁ(of) Allahﲂupon youﲃand His Mercyﲄinﲅthe worldﲆand the Hereafterﲇsurely would have touched youﲈinﲉwhatﲊyou had rushed gliblyﲋconcerning itﲌa punishmentﲍgreatﲎ(14)

Had it not been for Allah’s grace and mercy upon you in this world and the Hereafter, you would have certainly been touched with a tremendous punishment for what you plunged into—

24:15

ﲏWhenﲐyou received itﲑwith your tonguesﲒand you saidﲓwith your mouthsﲔwhatﲕnotﲖfor youﲗof itﲘany knowledgeﲙand you thought itﲚ(was) insignificantﲛwhile itﲜ(was) near Allahﲝ(was) near Allahﲞgreatﲟ(15)

when you passed it from one tongue to the other, and said with your mouths what you had no knowledge of, taking it lightly while it is ˹extremely˺ serious in the sight of Allah.

24:16

ﲠAnd why notﲡwhenﲢyou heard itﲣyou saidﲤNotﲥit isﲦfor usﲧthatﲨwe speakﲩof thisﲪGlory be to YouﲫThisﲬ(is) a slanderﲭgreatﲮ(16)

If only you had said upon hearing it, “How can we speak about such a thing! Glory be to You ˹O Lord˺! This is a heinous slander!”

24:17

ﲯAllah warns youﲰAllah warns youﲱthatﲲyou returnﲳ(to the) like of itﲴeverﲵifﲶyou areﲷbelieversﲸ(17)

Allah forbids you from ever doing something like this again, if you are ˹true˺ believers.

24:18

ﲹAnd Allah makes clearﲺAnd Allah makes clearﲻto youﲼﲽthe VersesﲾAnd Allahﲿ(is) All-KnowerﳀAll-Wiseﳁ(18)

And Allah makes ˹His˺ commandments clear to you, for Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

24:19

ﳂIndeedﳃthose whoﳄlikeﳅthatﳆ(should) spreadﳇthe immoralityﳈamongﳉthose whoﳊbelieveﳋfor themﳌ(is) a punishmentﳍpainfulﳎinﳏthe worldﳐﳑand the HereafterﳒAnd Allahﳓknowsﳔwhile youﳕ(do) notﳖknowﳗ(19)

Indeed, those who love to see indecency spread among the believers will suffer a painful punishment in this life and the Hereafter. Allah knows and you do not know.

24:20

ﳘAnd if notﳙ(for the) Grace of Allahﳚ(for the) Grace of Allahﳛupon youﳜand His MercyﳝAnd thatﳞAllahﳟ(is) Full of KindnessﳠMost Mercifulﳡ(20)

˹You would have suffered,˺ had it not been for Allah’s grace and mercy upon you, and had Allah not been Ever Gracious, Most Merciful.
