40:17

ﱁThis Dayﱂwill be recompensedﱃeveryﱄsoulﱅfor whatﱆﱇit earnedﱈNoﱉinjusticeﱊﱋtodayﱌIndeedﱍAllahﱎ(is) Swiftﱏ(in) Accountﱐ(17)

Today every soul will be rewarded for what it has done. No injustice Today! Surely Allah is swift in reckoning.”

40:18

ﱑAnd warn themﱒ(of the) Dayﱓthe Approachingﱔwhenﱕthe heartsﱖ(are) atﱗthe throatsﱘﱙchokedﱚNotﱛfor the wrongdoersﱜanyﱝintimate friendﱞand noﱟintercessorﱠ(who) is obeyedﱡ(18)

Warn them ˹O Prophet˺ of the approaching Day when the hearts will jump into the throats, suppressing distress. The wrongdoers will have neither a close friend nor intercessor to be heard.

40:19

ﱢHe knowsﱣ(the) stealthy glanceﱤ(the) stealthy glanceﱥand whatﱦconcealﱧthe breastsﱨ(19)

Allah ˹even˺ knows the sly glances of the eyes and whatever the hearts conceal.

40:20

ﱩAnd Allahﱪjudgesﱫﱬin truthﱭwhile those (whom)ﱮthey invokeﱯbesides Himﱰbesides Himﱱnotﱲthey judgeﱳﱴwith anythingﱵIndeedﱶAllah ﱷHeﱸ(is) the All-Hearerﱹthe All-Seerﱺ(20)

And Allah judges with the truth, while those ˹idols˺ they invoke besides Him cannot judge at all. Indeed, Allah ˹alone˺ is the All-Hearing, All-Seeing.

40:21

ﱻ ﱼDo notﱽthey travelﱾinﱿthe earthﲀand seeﲁhowﲂwasﲃ(the) endﲄ(of) those whoﲅwereﲆbefore themﲇﲈbefore themﲉThey wereﲊ[they]ﲋsuperiorﲌto themﲍ(in) strengthﲎand (in) impressionsﲏinﲐthe landﲑbut Allah seized themﲒbut Allah seized themﲓfor their sinsﲔand notﲕwasﲖfor themﲗagainstﲘAllahﲙanyﲚprotectorﲛ(21)

Have they not travelled throughout the land to see what was the end of those ˹destroyed˺ before them? They were far superior in might and ˹richer in˺ monuments throughout the land. But Allah seized them for their sins, and they had no protector from Allah.

40:22

ﲜThatﲝ(was) because [they]ﲞused to come to themﲟused to come to themﲠtheir Messengersﲡwith clear proofsﲢbut they disbelievedﲣSo Allah seized themﲤﲥSo Allah seized themﲦIndeed, Heﲧ(is) All-Strongﲨsevereﲩ(in) punishmentﲪ(22)

That was because their messengers used to come to them with clear proofs, but they persisted in disbelief. So Allah seized them. Surely He is All-Powerful, severe in punishment.

40:23

ﲫAnd certainlyﲬWe sentﲭMusaﲮwith Our Signsﲯand an authorityﲰclearﲱ(23)

Indeed, We sent Moses with Our signs and compelling proof

40:24

ﲲToﲳFiraunﲴHamanﲵand Qarunﲶbut they saidﲷA magicianﲸa liarﲹ(24)

to Pharaoh, Hamân, and Korah. But they responded: “Magician! Total liar!”

40:25

ﲺThen whenﲻhe brought to themﲼthe truthﲽfromﲾUsﲿthey saidﳀKillﳁ(the) sonsﳂ(of) those whoﳃbelieveﳄwith himﳅand let liveﳆﳇtheir womenﳈAnd notﳉ(is the) plotﳊ(of) the disbelieversﳋbutﳌinﳍerrorﳎ(25)

Then, when he came to them with the truth from Us, they said, “Kill the sons of those who believe with him and keep their women.” But the plotting of the disbelievers was only in vain.
