40:34

And indeedcame to youYusufbeforebeforewith clear proofsbut notyou ceasedindoubtabout whathe brought to youﱍﱎ[with it]untilwhenhe diedyou saidNeverwill Allah raisewill Allah raiseafter himafter himﱘﱙa MessengerThusAllah lets go astrayAllah lets go astraywho[he](is) a transgressora doubter(34)

Joseph already came to you1 earlier with clear proofs, yet you never ceased to doubt what he came to you with. When he died you said, ‘Allah will never send a messenger after him.’ This is how Allah leaves every transgressor and doubter to stray—

40:35

Those whodisputeconcerning(the) Signs(of) Allahwithoutany authorityﱩﱪ(having) come to them(it) is greatlyhatefulnear Allahnear Allahand nearthoseﱱﱲwho believeThusAllah sets a sealAllah sets a sealovereveryheart(of) an arroganttyrant(35)

those who dispute Allah’s signs with no proof given to them. How despicable is that for Allah and the believers! This is how Allah seals the heart of every arrogant tyrant.”

40:36

And saidFiraunO HamanﱿConstructfor mea towerthat I mayreachthe ways(36)

Pharaoh ordered, “O Hamân! Build me a high tower so I may reach the pathways

40:37

(The) ways(to) the heavensso I may lookat(the) God(of) Musaand indeed, I[I] surely think himﲎﲏ(to be) a liarAnd thuswas made fair-seemingto Firaun(the) evil(of) his deedand he was avertedfromﲗﲘthe wayAnd not(was the) plot(of) Firaunexceptinruin(37)

leading up to the heavens and look for the God of Moses, although I am sure he is a liar.”1 And so Pharaoh’s evil deeds were made so appealing to him that he was hindered from the ˹Right˺ Way. But the plotting of Pharaoh was only in vain.

40:38

And saidthe one whobelievedO my peopleFollow meI will guide you(to the) waythe right(38)

And the man who believed urged, “O my people! Follow me, ˹and˺ I will lead you to the Way of Guidance.

40:39

O my peopleOnlythisthe life(of) the world(is) enjoymentand indeedthe Hereafter it(is the) home(of) settlement(39)

O  my people! This worldly life is only ˹a fleeting˺ enjoyment, whereas the Hereafter is truly the home of settlement.

40:40

Whoeverdoesan evilthen nothe will be recompensedbutﲻﲼ(the) like thereofand whoeverdoesﲿrighteous (deeds)ofmaleorfemalewhile he(is) a believerthen thosewill enterParadisethey will be given provisionin itwithoutaccount(40)

Whoever does an evil deed will only be paid back with its equivalent. And whoever does good, whether male or female, and is a believer, they will enter Paradise, where they will be provided for without limit.
