40:78

ﱁAnd certainlyﱂWe have sentﱃMessengersﱄbefore youﱅbefore youﱆAmong themﱇ(are) who ﱈWe have relatedﱉto youﱊand among themﱋ(are) who ﱌnotﱍWe have relatedﱎﱏto youﱐAnd notﱑisﱒfor any Messengerﱓthatﱔhe bringsﱕa Signﱖexceptﱗby (the) permissionﱘﱙ(of) AllahﱚSo whenﱛcomesﱜ(the) Commandﱝ(of) Allahﱞit will be decidedﱟin truthﱠand will loseﱡthereﱢthe falsifiersﱣ(78)

We already sent messengers before you. We have told you the stories of some of them, while others We have not. It was not for any messenger to bring a sign without Allah’s permission. But when Allah’s decree comes, judgment will be passed with fairness, and the people of falsehood will then be in ˹total˺ loss.

40:79

ﱤAllahﱥ(is) the One Whoﱦmadeﱧfor youﱨthe cattleﱩthat you may rideﱪsome of themﱫand some of themﱬyou eatﱭ(79)

It is Allah Who made cattle for you so that you may ride some and eat others.

40:80

ﱮAnd for youﱯin themﱰ(are) benefitsﱱand that you may reachﱲthrough themﱳa needﱴ(that is) inﱵyour breastsﱶand upon themﱷand uponﱸthe shipsﱹyou are carriedﱺ(80)

Also, you find in them ˹other˺ benefits.1 And by means of them you may reach destinations you desire. And you are carried upon ˹some of˺ them and upon ships.

40:81

ﱻAnd He shows youﱼHis SignsﱽThen whichﱾ(of the) Signsﱿ(of) Allahﲀwill you denyﲁ(81)

And He shows you His signs. Now which of Allah’s signs will you deny?

40:82

ﲂDo they notﲃtravelﲄthroughﲅthe landﲆand seeﲇhowﲈwasﲉ(the) endﲊ(of) those whoﲋ(were) before themﲌﲍ(were) before themﲎThey wereﲏmore numerousﲐthan themﲑand mightierﲒ(in) strengthﲓand impressionsﲔinﲕthe landﲖbut notﲗavailedﲘthemﲙwhatﲚthey used toﲛearnﲜ(82)

Have they not travelled throughout the land to see what was the end of those who were ˹destroyed˺ before them? They were far superior in number and might and ˹richer in˺ monuments throughout the land, but their ˹worldly˺ gains were of no benefit to them.

40:83

ﲝThen whenﲞcame to themﲟtheir Messengersﲠwith clear proofsﲡthey rejoicedﲢin whatﲣthey hadﲤofﲥthe knowledgeﲦand envelopedﲧthemﲨwhatﲩthey used toﲪ[at it]ﲫmockﲬ(83)

When their messengers came to them with clear proofs, they were prideful in whatever ˹worldly˺ knowledge they had,1 and were ˹ultimately˺ overwhelmed by what they used to ridicule.

40:84

ﲭSo whenﲮthey sawﲯOur punishmentﲰthey saidﲱWe believeﲲin AllahﲳAloneﲴand we disbelieveﲵin whatﲶwe used toﲷwith Himﲸassociateﲹ(84)

When they saw Our punishment, they cried, “˹Now˺ we believe in Allah alone and reject what we had been associating with Him!”

40:85

ﲺBut did notﲻBut did notﲼbenefit themﲽtheir faithﲾwhenﲿthey sawﳀﳁOur punishmentﳂ(Such is the) Wayﳃ(of) Allahﳄwhichﳅ(has) indeedﳆprecededﳇamongﳈﳉHis slavesﳊAnd are lostﳋthereﳌthe disbelieversﳍ(85)

But their faith was of no benefit to them when they saw Our torment. This has ˹always˺ been Allah’s way ˹of dealing˺ with His ˹wicked˺ servants. Then and there the disbelievers were in ˹total˺ loss.
