47:20

ﱁAnd sayﱂthose whoﱃbelieveﱄWhy notﱅhas been revealedﱆﱇa SurahﱈBut whenﱉis revealedﱊa Surahﱋpreciseﱌand is mentionedﱍin itﱎthe fightingﱏyou seeﱐthose whoﱑinﱒtheir heartsﱓ(is) a diseaseﱔlookingﱕat you ﱖa lookﱗ(of) one faintingﱘ(of) one faintingﱙfromﱚﱛthe deathﱜBut more appropriateﱝfor themﱞ(20)

And the believers say, “If only a sûrah was revealed ˹allowing self-defence˺!” Yet when a precise sûrah is revealed, in which fighting is ˹explicitly˺ mentioned, you see those with sickness in their hearts staring at you like someone in the throes of death. It would have been better for them

47:21

ﱟ(Is) obedienceﱠand a wordﱡﱢkindﱣAnd whenﱤ(is) determinedﱥthe matterﱦthen ifﱧthey had been trueﱨ(to) Allahﱩsurely, it would have beenﱪbetterﱫfor themﱬ(21)

to obey and speak rightly. Then when fighting was ordained, it surely would have been better for them if they were true to Allah.

47:22

ﱭThen wouldﱮyou perhapsﱯifﱰyou are given authorityﱱthatﱲyou cause corruptionﱳinﱴthe earthﱵand cut offﱶyour ties of kinshipﱷ(22)

Now if you ˹hypocrites˺ turn away, perhaps you would then spread corruption throughout the land and sever your ˹ties of˺ kinship!1

47:23

ﱸThoseﱹ(are) the onesﱺAllah has cursed themﱻAllah has cursed themﱼso He made them deafﱽand blindedﱾtheir visionﱿ(23)

These are the ones who Allah has condemned, deafening them and blinding their eyes.

47:24

ﲀThen do notﲁthey ponderﲂ(over) the Quranﲃorﲄuponﲅ(their) heartsﲆ(are) locksﲇ(24)

Do they not then reflect on the Quran? Or are there locks upon their hearts?

47:25

ﲈIndeedﲉthose whoﲊreturnﲋonﲌtheir backsﲍafterﲎafterﲏwhatﲐ(has) become clearﲑto themﲒ(of) the guidanceﲓShaitaanﲔenticedﲕ[for] themﲖand prolonged hopeﲗfor themﲘ(25)

Indeed, those who relapse ˹into disbelief˺ after ˹true˺ guidance has become clear to them, ˹it is˺ Satan ˹that˺ has tempted them, luring them with false hopes.

47:26

ﲙThatﲚ(is) because theyﲛ[they] saidﲜto those whoﲝhateﲞwhatﲟAllah has revealedﲠAllah has revealedﲡWe will obey youﲢinﲣpartﲤﲥ(of) the matterﲦBut Allahﲧknowsﲨtheir secretsﲩ(26)

That is because they said ˹privately˺ to those who ˹also˺ detest what Allah has revealed, “We will obey you in some matters.”1 But Allah ˹fully˺ knows what they are hiding.

47:27

ﲪThen howﲫwhenﲬtake them in deathﲭthe Angelsﲮstrikingﲯtheir facesﲰand their backsﲱ(27)

Then how ˹horrible˺ will it be when the angels take their souls, beating their faces and backs!

47:28

ﲲThatﲳ(is) because theyﲴfollowedﲵwhatﲶangeredﲷAllahﲸand hatedﲹHis pleasureﲺso He made worthlessﲻtheir deedsﲼ(28)

This is because they follow whatever displeases Allah and hate whatever pleases Him, so He has rendered their deeds void.

47:29

ﲽOr doﲾthinkﲿthose whoﳀinﳁtheir heartsﳂ(is) a diseaseﳃthatﳄneverﳅwill Allah bring forthﳆwill Allah bring forthﳇtheir hatredﳈ(29)

Or do those with sickness in their hearts think that Allah will not ˹be able to˺ expose their malice?
