96:13

Have you seenifhe deniesand turns away(13)

What if that ˹man˺ persists in denial and turns away?

96:14

Does nothe knowthatAllahsees(14)

Does he not know that Allah sees ˹all˺?

96:15

NayIfnothe desistssurely We will drag himby the forelock(15)

But no! If he does not desist, We will certainly drag him by the forelock—

96:16

A forelocklyingsinful(16)

a lying, sinful forelock.1

96:17

Then let him callhis associates(17)

So let him call his associates.

96:18

We will callthe Angels of Hell(18)

We will call the wardens of Hell.

96:19

Nay(Do) notobey himﱠﱡBut prostrateﱢﱣand draw near (to Allah)(19)

Again, no! Never obey him ˹O Prophet˺! Rather, ˹continue to˺ prostrate and draw near ˹to Allah˺.

97. Al-QadrThe Power

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful

97:1

Indeed, Werevealed itin(the) Night(of) Power(1)

Indeed, ˹it is˺ We ˹Who˺ sent this ˹Quran˺ down on the Night of Glory.1

97:2

And whatcan make you knowwhat(the) Night(of) Power (is)(2)

And what will make you realize what the Night of Glory is?

97:3

(The) Night(of) Power(is) betterthana thousandmonth(s)(3)

The Night of Glory is better than a thousand months.

97:4

Descendthe Angelsand the Spiritthereinby (the) permission(of) their Lordforﱿeveryaffair(4)

That night the angels and the ˹holy˺ spirit1 descend, by the permission of their Lord, for every ˹decreed˺ matter.

97:5

Peaceit (is)until(the) emergence(of) the dawn(5)

It is all peace until the break of dawn.

98. Al-BayyinahThe Clear Proof

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful

98:1

Notwerethose whodisbelievedfrom(the) Peopleof the Bookand the polytheiststo be abandoneduntil(there) comes to themthe clear evidence(1)

The disbelievers from the People of the Book and the polytheists were not going to desist ˹from disbelief˺ until the clear proof came to them:

98:2

A MessengerfromAllahrecitingpagespurified(2)

a messenger from Allah, reciting scrolls of ˹utmost˺ purity,

98:3

Wherein(are) writingscorrect(3)

containing upright commandments.

98:4

And notbecame dividedthose whowere giventhe Bookuntilfromafterwhatcame (to) them(of) the clear evidence(4)

It was not until this clear proof came to the People of the Book that they became divided ˹about his prophethood˺—

98:5

And notthey were commandedexceptto worshipAllah(being) sincereto Him(in) the religionuprightand to establishthe prayerand to giveﲸﲹthe zakahAnd that(is the) religionthe correct(5)

even though they were only commanded to worship Allah ˹alone˺ with sincere devotion to Him in all uprightness, establish prayer, and pay alms-tax. That is the upright Way.
